If you're in Times Square, check out Midtown Comics at 7th Ave. and 40th ST. Great comic shop!

I'm actually not a huge comics guy. My FLGS is more than half comics, but they have an excellent RPG section.

Here's some of my favorite places to eat:

Norma's in the Parker Meridien for brunch (easier to get a table on weekdays, weekends next to impossible)

Blue Smoke BBQ

Norma's looks neat! It's inside a hotel? Shouldn't be too hard to find, I think...

And, is Blue Smoke, like, really, really good? Coming from Texas, you have to understand we think we know everything about barbecue. ;)

Norma's is cool and the staff is friendly. It looks like it's going to be one of those fru fru places where your meal is the size of a dime but you get a lot of food. Most of the meals are moderately priced, but there is a $1,000 omlette on the menu (because it comes with 10 oz. of caviar). Next to it on the menu it says, "we dare you to expense this!" The whole place has a nice sense of humor and doesn't take itself too too seriously. You get a lot of food with your meal, and they look like a work of art when they come out. You can get away with casual dress there too (as you can most of New York).

Knowing you're from Texas makes me nervous recommending BBQ, but I really like Blue Smoke - it's a fun place with great sides. I do have friends here originally from Texas who love Daisy May's for BBQ. I've been there a couple of times and liked it very much.

I do know what to *avoid* for BBQ in New York though: Any Dallas BBQ and Virgil's.

Good to know. :)

I have two friends (husband and wife) at my work that moved to Houston recently from New York, and I asked what their favorite restaurant was. They both said, "Mamouns." (Not sure on spelling) They supposed have the best falafel in New York, and it's $2 each.

Anyone heard of it?

I LOVE MAMOUN'S!!!! I used to live around the corner from Mamoun's when I lived on Bleecker.

It's really cheap and it's very good! The humus and babagonush are good too. It's literally a whole in the wall, though, so don't expect a table unless you are really lucky. I recommend taking your sandwich up the block to Washington Square Park to eat. Expect lines out the door at lunch, dinner and after bar hours. But they move very fast.

Wow, even holes-in-the-wall in New York have websites?

What is with that?!

Well, I'll take that as a good recommendation. ;)

Thanks a lot, some cool places mentioned.

I'm not really planning on doing any game-related shopping (but hey, I might have a few hours to kill while waiting for friends).

so far we're planning on the cloisters, a few friends mentioned an air-craft carrier to visit. We've also got a couple of clubs and restuarants on our list. Might check out a few of the places jaerdaph mentioned (they sound interesting)

Adding in visiting Central park and some graveyard a friend found on his last trip to New York should fill out our weekend.

Sounds like you guys will have a fun trip!

Yup, as long as we don't get stopped at the border for too long, but we have a feeling at 7 people under 30 in a minivan are going to get pulled aside and searched. I think we'll be happy if we can keep the search to under 2 hours and avoid any body-cavity checks :)

So we're basically planning on arriving friday evening, going out for food and drinks, briginging the party back to the hotel and then seeing the sites Saturday and Sunday.

man, 4 days. I can't wait
