Vodou sources?

I'm looking for good sources on Vodou. The west African thing, not the new world thing. I read the Wikipedia article, but I'm looking for more detail, preferably something closer to the historical sources than something sensationalized. Game books or otherwise.

Sadly, I don’t have any good pointers, but if you’re looking to avoid sensationalized works, steer clear of Wade Davis (of Serpent and the Rainbow fame).

I've been fairly cursory with my web searches so far, but so far the problem seems to be that books seem to fall into one of 3 categories:

1. Spellbooks and the like for believers.
2. Sensationalistic stuff.
3. Apologetics.

I don't want the kind of fluff publishers sell to the kind of people who believe in this stuff. I don't want the sensationalistic stuff, which seems to focus on the new world, in any event. I don't want the whitewashed "'splain it to the Christians/Westerners" stuff.

Guess I'm going to have to up my research game for this one. Thanks for the tip about Davis.

I might just have to bite my lip and go with the old, slaver- and abolitionist-distorted sources.
