Vorpal, AoO, and one very dead Barbarian

So I decided to call WOTC on this since there are people that are saying yes and no on the AoO.

According to the person that I talked to if you are in the process of casting a spell then you can not take the AoO. So if you are casting a full round spell you may not take the AoO until after you are done casting the spell which would be just before your next turn.

If you are casting a spell that is a standard action and someone has a ready action to charge you or do something else that would provoke during this time then you still would not get to take your AoO.

So if you want to cast a spell that takes a full round or longer, from the time that you start the spell until the time that you complete the spell you can not take the AoO.

Thanks all for the help. :)

Did you ask if that applied to spell-like abilities?

Yes it does. The only real difference between actually casting the spell and using the spell-like ability is the lack of components needed for the spell-like ability.

That would be a big 'yes' on that one. :D Fun fight, too. Except for the Barbarian. But he did get the sword after he was resurrected...

We're talking about a Balor, right? AFAIK they explode when you kill them, dealing damage to everyone who stands too near and destroying the weapons he holds in the process. So how did you get these weapons?

Well, the DM forgot to do the explosion, though afterward we figured it wouldn't have killed anyone anyway (and we had a Mass Heal immediately after).

As for the Balor's weapon being destroyed...that I couldn't answer. I don't know much about them, so I didn't know that occured. Slipped past the DM, I guess.
