I voted fighter, but it was a close run thing with the wizard. I've played those two classes more than any other. But in the end, it had to be fighter as I just love being in the thick of it and when I look back at my memorable gaming moments (as a player) they're nearly all with the fighter.

ok...its up to 82 votes until now... And those results make me wonder...

Is it just me...or is it possible that they do not reflect the truth?

In gaming groups arounds me i happen to see A LOT more fighters and A LOT more martial characters than what's reflected in the poll...

I believe that there are a lot of players out there who are gonna play their fighter just fine..... they won't get down with the rules so much..... and they certainly won't go into forums discussing about them like we geeks do....

Just look at the top three Wizard: 21, Rogue: 11, Cleric: 8...
All three classes are very cool for sure but they are also very "Rules-Heavy" classes.
Wizards and Clerics are heavy because of the spells, while the Rogue because of all the skill complications...

....what do you guys think on that????

ENWorld forums skew heavily toward DMs and avid players, so I suspect that a lot of the votes were cast by folks with a high interest in rules, or at least not afraid of lots of rules. They're least likely to shy away from pages of spells, or tons of skills or finicky attack modes.

I suspect, also, that if you had some way to poll casual gamers, the results would flip, or at least flatten out.

That's my gut feeling, anyway. Might be nothing to it. ;)

(Btw, I voted sorc, and I like spont casters in general-- even though I'm horrible at playing them effectively!)

I agree with the_orc_within. I think the fact the EN World has a lot of DMs and avid players as posters skews the results in favor of certain classes.
