Vrock Spores: Disease???

Not a disease.

A delay poison spell stops the spores’ growth for its duration. Bless, neutralize poison, or remove disease kills the spores, as does sprinkling the victim with a vial of holy water.

So according to some posters it would also count as poison? Or does the holy water mean its undead or something? Bless? It must be calling for a fear save.

Would you also rule that Green Slime is a disease? It is destroyed by a Remove Disease spell.

I would say both are something disease-like that the spell can counter but the abilities cannot.
Spores are close enough to a fungal infection or somesuch that I have no problem ruling they're a disease. I'm not familiar with the Green Slime except to recognize the name (I've never had a chance to work it into my games.) Is the creature simply destroyed outright by a Remove Disease spell?

Interesting. I wouldn't rule it's a disease, because it's a creature. But I don't think the fact that a Green Slime creature can be killed by Remove Disease invalidates my ruling in any sense, save that I will now make an exception to it, with regards to creatures that for whatever reason are destroyed by Remove Disease. :p

Edit to add: And I'm not entirely sure the exception would always apply. My DM in the game I currently play in ruled that my pally was immune to the Implant (Ex) ability of the Slaad, which is also cured through Remove Disease, and I'd probably rule the same. Divine Health is, IMO, similar to a golem's Immunity to Spells. It's unbeatable Remove Disease. If an effect is cured by Remove Disease, then it finds no purchase in Divine flesh, any more than it would in a stone statue or a zombie.

I can understand ruling the ability more narrowly. I just don't see any reason, RAW or balance-wise, to do so.

seems the rules recognize parasites being seperate from diseases, remove disease just gets them both. Looks like pally is slime chow again. :playa killa bootyshaka dance:

Remove Disease

Conjuration (Healing)
Level: Clr 3, Drd 3, Rgr 3 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Fortitude negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)

Remove disease cures all diseases that the subject is suffering from. The spell also kills parasites, including green slime and others. Certain special diseases may not be countered by this spell or may be countered only by a caster of a certain level or higher.

Note: Since the spell’s duration is instantaneous, it does not prevent reinfection after a new exposure to the same disease at a later date.

Divine Health (Ex): At 3rd level, a paladin gains immunity to all diseases, including supernatural and magical diseases.

Ok, that's convincing enough for me to treat it as "not a disease".
Convincing enough for me to change my stance as well. From "there's no compelling RAW reason to rule otherwise" to "I use a House Rule." :p

What is a "disease"?

This is a fantasy game, not RL, thus one may choose to define things differently. Most (if not all) of the non-magical diseases in D&D are in fact, infections. (By this I mean there is no "coronary artery disease" effect, or "diabetes" effect. This is only logical, as the setting of most games is pseudo medieval fantasy, and in those times (again, in RL) most recognized diseases were infectious.

Infections, by definition, are ALL caused by organisms such as bacteria, virii, fungi (including spores), parasites, and others. Thus one could argue easliy argue that any spore, fungus, parasite, or other non-sentient microbe (or macrobe, in the case of slime :-P) causes an infection... and divine or perfect physiology should be immune.

Then again, this need not be the case in a fantasy world.

Helf
