While I think it is currently impossible to get the DDI tools to run on an iPad, I have heard about someone, using something (LogMeIn I think it was called) to run DDI on his/her computer, but controlling it from their iPad.

This is very good news for me, as I am part of the VTT beta, but not getting much use out of it yet. I wanted to use it to play with my far away friends, but it only allowed people inside the beta.
I thought about using it for mapping, but the tileset available was too limiting. It should at least have had all three of the essentials tilesets, which I assume will be added to it at some point.

But, as a life-long Mac user, this makes me very happy. Finally I can update and export monsters without having to switch to my Windows partition, and export, then return to mac for my adventure writing in Word.
Hopefully these new tools will be up quickly next week.

For those of you with acces-- does the virtual table have any potential as an asynchronous tool? Meaning something where individuals could log in at different times to move figures around the battle map and such? A supplement say to an email campaign?

Thanks for the help.

In theory, I suppose one could do that. The DM would have to keep the table open all the time, and then players could jump in and move their tokens and update their hit points whenever they check the campaign message board or email thread. But that's not really its strength. What a virtual table is great for is letting people in different physical locations play an RPG together in real time.

It could in principle but there is no way to record moves and so forth. If I was doing D&D by email and I wanted a map application I think I would look at Cyberboard or some other wargame application and see if they could be used because some of them are designed for play by email from the get go.

everyAir lets you do things like play games on your computer while sitting somewhere else on your iPad. The example I saw was WoW. I don't see why the same couldn't be done here.

It would also depend strongly on how WotC works the system for logging into games. Currenbtly, for the beta, tickets are assigned and, once used, are open for 24 hours. (You can get as many tickets as you want though).

There has been no info yet on how this will work once it goes live.
