Wacky stats

i just rolled some similar numbers for a new character a couple days ago:

9, 13, 15, 17, 5, 14

the good rolls weren't as good as yours, but the same idea. i decided on a dwarf cleric with these final stats:

15, 5, 16, 9, 17, 11

i've never played a character with such a low ability score before, but now i'm looking forward to it.

Clay, keep the 5 in Wisdom - based on your example quote, that's your guy. Besides, someone who's a thug needs to be at least decent in combat skills in order to have a successful career AS a thug, IMO.

And now you've given me someone else to investigate. Never heard of him before now... (*heads to Google*)

I've played (and still am playing) a halfing (temporarily a kobold, but that's another story) rogue/master chef with a wisdom of 5.

It's a blast! Gullibility is a wonderful thing to run with. You get to do fun things like trade away magic wands for "lucky" hats without batting an eye. And if the group is ever foolish enough to leave you on watch by yourself...hehehe.

"Hey, what's that shiny thing over there?" (Wanders off and leaves camp unguarded...)

Low wisdom is the way to go.

Fascinating figure. Easily as famous as other better known wild west figures in his lifetime. If someone lets me make a movie some day this is one I would like to do. 'Porter Rockwell, destroying angel'

If you look loosely at it I think the Porter character form 'Payback' with Mel Gibson is based on him. :)

Alternatively, go with a Bard. Focus on Oratory as your Perform. Knowledge is no long cross-class. Your spells aren't divine, but you _think_ they are. You wear light armor because you _choose_ to, not because you have to. ;)

Taking the bard idea further, the Evangelist PrC from Complete Divine might fit the concept pretty well. Fahr and brimstone and all that. :D

While I like the low WIS ideas above, I have an alternate suggestion which I think would also be fun to play:
Why not a low-INT, high-WIS rogue/cleric? That way, you get the thuggish traits you wanted (by Rogue without lots of skills) but yet can also have wisdom reflecting genuine religious convictions. You could play him much like Forrest Gump- a salt-of-the-earth guy who does not know much, but knows what is right. And, "...what love is." :)

Hey Mark...

Curious what you have so far for this char. Class, where you went with the 5 stat, race. etc. I got the feeling you might be going with a non-sterotypical elf?

BTW, as interesting characters go, I was just reading in the new MHQ about the childhood of Ambrose Bierce. It's a pity such an anti-social mindset is far from the way I'd pictured my char. It'd be a neat combo with your char's concept.

Exactly. He could never cast spells, would be easily led, and would have so little judgement that he would happily bash heads at the slightest provocation. And with all his other stats really high, he'd be well nigh unkillable. (Unless someone commanded him to take a long walk off a short pier.)

I already like this guy.

I am going with a human. I have some interesting DM approved back-story coming along, but need to save that back for 'after first session' sharing. :)
