Waiting another month for 4E

Well, I just got an email from Amazon informing me that my order of the 4E gift set will be delayed and the new estimated arrival is around the 14th of July!

Since I am cheap and want the low price and don't plan to run 4E any time soon (if ever), I guess it is no big deal - but it is still kind of annoying as I was looking forward to looking through them and making my own decision (and also I feel like I am falling behind and often have no idea what people are talking about in various 4E threads).

I guess I am lucky that I pre-ordered 4E more out of habit than excitement or else I might have to cancel my order and go find the books somewhere else. . .

It's a shame. I have to admit, I'm surprised at all the angst from some of the Amazon customers who ordered the books. I thought it was pretty well known by now that you don't order from Amazon if you expect to get an RPG product at the release date.

With Amazon it has been hit and miss for quite a while. Sometimes you get the product before everyone else. Sometimes you get the product around the release date. Very often, with RPG products, you get them weeks after everyone else.

I always tell people who suggest they are ordering from Amazon something like this that they should only do it if getting the best price is their most important goal. If prompt delivery is important they should consider other options since Amazon's track record is so poor.

This is my first experience with a delayed order, but like I said in my original post, I am in no real rush. :)

We just played our 32nd session of our current 3.xE Aquerra game and typically my campaigns for 100 or more sessions.

I got a similar e-mail and cancelled my order. I don't mind it being a bit late, but I already have a campaing starting on July 5th . I am most unimpressed at them telling me now it's going to be late when it has been on pre-order for months.

I just got the same e-mail. I sent them a letter telling them how I feel about people who ordered AFTER ME with the same shipping method have their books already.... AND they removed my pre-order discount.

EDIT: Oh, and this is also the first time I've had a problem with amazon. I've been buying from them for years, too...

Just got informed today that the Amazon gift set I preordered in April won't get to me until August.

Oh, well... it could have been worse. I could have been waiting to play on the DDi GameTable.

Guys, just cancel your order and re-order the books individually.

It's the gift set with the slip case you're waiting on. Ordering individually will cost you maybe $5 more (like $62), but that's what you were paying when you ordered it the first time.

There's little sense in waiting a month for a slip case.

I got the e-mail from Amazon today and immediately ordered the books individually from Buy.com (because I had a gift card there).

I'm sort of stuck, because it's not my preorder, it was preordered for me as a gift. I'm not about to be so rude as to buy another set of books or ask her to cancel her preorder.

I didn't know Amazon was so notorious with preorder sales, honestly. I've preordered from them before and didn't have a problem. Won't be preordering from them again, that's for sure.
