Waking an Unconsious Ally

The Oni Night Haunter's Hypnotic Breath power does have the "Sleep" descriptor...

Hypnotic Breath (standard; recharges when first bloodied) ✦ Charm, Sleep
Close blast 5; +11 vs. Will; the target is dazed (save ends). First Failed Save: The target falls unconscious (no save).

Compare to the Wizard's Sleep spell.

The rule for waking a sleeping target should apply normally.

Which means nothing other than a quick esplination that this power will make you unconcious. Lets put it this way, if it put you to sleep, you automatically wake up because there is a battle going on arround you/its a free action to shout. It would be kinda useless if it put you to sleep. Think of it as putting you in a comma. No matter how much you shout, the vegtable wont wake up.

The errata clearly fixes this specific problem, by adding the save.

However...

I'm not sure what you mean; the Sleep power also has the Sleep keyword and similar wording in the form of "...the target becomes unconscious (save ends)."

I wouldn't give the Sleep keyword so much significance. If we take it to mean that the targets are just sleeping then all it takes is someone shouting or a Perception check against DC 5 to be woken up by the sounds of battle. I'd think of these powers more like general anaesthetics: a force is at work to keep you unconscious and that's what you're saving against.

Fair enough.

We'll just have to remember that in situations where similar "save or incapacitate" effects are listed as "no save", changing it to "save ends" is a reasonable solution, until the errata and updates can be consulted.

If I understand it correctly, there is no general rule for sleeping and/or being unconscious (regarding waking up, that is).

PHB pg 263 (the deluxe edition, which includes all the errata):
Sleeping and Waking Up

"When you’re asleep, you’re unconscious (see “Conditions,”page 277). You wake up if you take damage or if you make a successful Perception check (with a –5 penalty) to hear sounds of danger. An ally can wake you up by shaking you (a standard action) or by shouting (a free action)."

Yes, I agree, waking after being unconscious in an alley is no fun at all...

Wait, sorry, I read that wrong.

*hic*

(just kidding and sorry, couldn't pass that up.)

The Sleep keyword says nothing about the type of unconsciousness the target is put into. That is listed under the power. So it is a case by case basis dependent on the power. An unconscious creature does not normally get up with a DC 5 perception check. They get up when the effect making then unconscious ends. The following is the definition for the Sleep keyword.

Sleep [Keyword]: Powers and effects that render a creature
unconscious have this keyword.
