Wands?

Why should this matter? Unless I'm mistaken, wands have a set DC and the stat [or other extraneous abilities] of the wielder doesn't matter. All the Rogue should need to do is to emulate the class itself to be able to use the wand.
What he said. To use a wand with UMD, all you need to do is get a DC of 20. Stat emulation is unnecessary.

I agree, high attributes aren't needed for wands. Just to pursue the point a step further, if a Rogue is using an Arcane Spell from a scroll (wizard/sorceror spell list) he can avoid the ability emulation roll if *either* his intelligence *or* his charisma are naturally high enough.

Staffs, of course, are an entirely different matter. A really high UMD score could do wonders with a staff. I'll have to get some for my Artificer someday...

No, it couldn't.

You don't make an Emulate Ability Score UMD check with a staff, since it's not necessary. You simply make the DC 20 'Use a Wand' check.

Notice that the description of Emulate Ability Score refers to the required score to activate a scroll. You can't Emulate an Int of 29 and then apply that the the Staff DC. It's only for purposes of 'making stuff work'... specifically, scrolls.

Yes, I hadn't noticed that. Too bad! Making stuff work well would hae been a logical extension of the skill...
