Wannabe Necro lookin' for suitable prestige class...

I'm Ray...of Enfeeblement
Hi there, I'm playing a human specialist, (necromancy), mage in Morrus' new campaign, (Age of Worms me thinx it's called), and I'm after what you lot would consider must have books for such a character.

At the moment we are using core rules only however he's said that as long as he can see well in advance any other stuff we want to use, he will consider letting us use it.

So I'd like book suggestions, PDF's, whatever really. What do you lot consider a wannabe necro absolutely must have and when should he have it by, (lv wise).

Please feel free to link or just copy stuff here such as feats and skills.

Would very much appreciate all you got.

Daar.

I think the Libris Mortis would be quite helpful. I've never used it for a necromancer but I thought it was a good book and it's all geared towards undead and such.

Cool, thx mate, I'll check it out.

I'm aiming for a more curse based Necro over undead summoning if that's at all possible?

I know I'll be summoning undead from time to time however the touch spells and bestow curse spells n stuff I really like.

I'm also trying to get6 some themes going with the spells so any help there would be great.

Example: Mummy Returns? When the mummy spews out a swarm of insects.........Summon Swarm....that'll be the visual attributed to that spell.

Any ideas folks, pls let me know.

Libris Mortis and Heroes of Horror are pretty much the givens for Necromancers. If you want to go with touch based spells, make sure to take spectral hand, so you can stay out of melee and still get those touch spells in. I believe Spell Compendium has the spells from Either Libris Mortis or Heroes of Horror, but not both. Libris Mortis has some great feat chains for necromancers.

Another very good book (although 3.0 and probably needing tweaks and flavor adjustments, as it is for Scarred Lands) is the Hollowfaust book, which is a Necromancer City with several types of Necro inspired PRC's for several classes to consider - not just wiz/cleric types.

I checked and the Pale Master from Libris Mortis looks like it could be a good fit. Eventually they get special debilitating touch attacks that do ability damage and such. And LM has a line of Necrotic Cyst spells where the caster forms a necrotic cyst in the victim and can use other spells to make the cyst do bad things to the victim.

Pale Master sounds good, I'll have to check that out.

I'd also be interested in seeing that Hollowfaust book because I can't imagine a Necro type without being either a wizard or cleric.
