Ellywick grew up as inquisitive as any other gnome child but her curiosity ran more toward the cycles and vast intricate patterns of nature than with the engineering endeavours of her people. She spent her childhood wandering the through the forest that surrounded her clan’s warrens with her grandfather and as they walked he taught her all he knew of the plants and animals that lived in the area, and a little of the martial ways he had employed while he had acted as a protector of warren.
When Ellywick’s thirst for knowledge was unabated and her grandfather’s wealth of information had been stretched to it limits, the old gnome took Elly to a secret grove tended by a small enclave druids, two elves and a human. The young gnome’s knowledge of nature was tested and the druids were impressed. She was accepted as a student of the grove and attended the sacred site daily.
As Ellywick grew in power, she continued to practice some of the fighting techniques her grandfather taught her, realising that her small stature may make her seem an easier target to would-be predators, both natural and supernatural.
