yeah, that also promises a lot that the book doesn't deliver. I read it for a book report in like 7th grade, all I remember going in was: aliens come from mars, they have tripods, and laserbeams, and then they die of disease our earth diseases. all I got from the book was: same stuff, except there's a priest, and also a flying machine, ????. trying to follow what was going on in books was a huge problem for me when I was young, but the dense prose did not help me at all. I did not get a good grade on this book report. That DOES look exciting. FWIW, the 1953 movie poster isn't half bad either. And that movie actually was pretty action packed and violent for the time.

I then later read the wikipedia article (like a few months ago) and learn much more than me reading the book, like how the aliens are weak and need the tripods to survive and how it was an allegory of man being too reliant on technology (god this sounds like the kind of story anti-vaxxers would love).
