Warcraft RPG - Anyone Have It?

Heh. Well, what can you do? Not all will be satisfied, I guess, even if the things they want will show up in future books.

:)

No trolls though :(, i have some neat ideas on how to intro the trolls into the campaign, was the only thing i was dissapointed about.

You'll get lots of information about trolls in the upcoming Manual of Monsters and Alliance & Horde Compendium. They're definitely on the way to being a PC race. ;)

All i know is that Grom Hellscream is coming back baby. w00t!!!

Awesome!

Take care,
Mike

Picked it up yesterday at the local game shop. It is very.... interesting. They have changed a weee bit of the story but nothing to get nit-picky about. The races and classes seem to be well done. Something kewl is that they have affiliation, ie: Horde and Alliance. It is recommended that the group play fer one of them, unless the DM is experienced. Orcs get 1 free rage per day, for whatever class they choose, ie raging Shaman :)

If you are a High Elf wiz/sor you need 1 hour to get yer spells back and 1 hour to fight the addiction.

Taurens and far weaker than the minotaurs in the MM, which is a good thing.

Any more info you need just ask. The book is right here beside me at work :P

What are the stats for Warcraft orcs like? Please tell me that they are different than the Monster Manual orcs.

Thanks. :)

Alright MasterLich, I've got some questions for you.

1. Is the magic system different from the default D&D at all? Are there more spontaneous casters? What about elves only needing an hour to get their spells back? Does that apply to other races in any way?

2. I never played the video games much. Is there enough background information to bring me up to speed?

3. I love the Warcraft artistic style. Is the art good? How about the layout? Are there any juvenile art pieces?

Thanks,

Nick

the book arrived four days ago, and i have skimmed through the pages (224 of them). my first impression:

layout:
- font size too large
- space between text columns too large
- page borgers to wide
- some really good grafics, some really poor
- all grafics b&w only
- tables partly overlapping each other if more than one is on the same page
- tables not aligned to each other, sometimes giving a rather wild look to the page

all in all: they coul'd have saved perhaps 1/4 of the pages by changing layout, because of too much space being wasted.

rules stuff:
- races. i like them
- spellcasting rules are unchanged, except for clerics. no cleric, but the healer class (no domains, no undead turning). prestige classes are used "priest types" (including domains). Sorcers and Wizards have a few spells removed from spell-list, because of flavor and prestige classes. it's ok
- simple technology rules. i like them

campaign stuff:
- nicely described but:
- no stats or descriptions of important npcs
- no DM's stats for settlements (like size or gp-limit, or population numbers)

all in all:
i don't know if i'm disappointed or not. certainly, my expectations where to high, but i must read through the book one more time and take an in deep look before i will finally judge the product.

Hope Mike dont get mad with this, delete if necessary.

Orcs: +2 Con -2 Int
Low light vision
Battle Rage 1/day, exact same as Barb rage but they get it and still applies for whatever class they take. If taken Barb, it stack with the daily use.
Weap Fam: Orcish Claws are martial porf.
Weap Prof: All Orcs get Battleaxe prof
Some other stuff as well.

1) Pretty much the same but a few spells will not work in WC. As is explain in the book, Arcane arts have their problems in WC. You may attract the attention of Minions of the Burning Legion, tends not to be a good thing IMHO.
Pretty much Druid of the Wild, and Healers get spontaneous casting.
If you are a Night Elf and take Wiz/sorc/any arcane caster lvl, you lose yer night elf abilities and become High Elf.
High Elf must spend 2 hours each day, 1 fer memorizing and 1 to resist the Magic Addiction. This applies only to High Elves.

2) More than enuf.

3) There is some new art in this book, but i have seen most of it b4.

Thanks for the info! I find it strange that Warcraft orcs don't have a strength bonus as well, but I guess giving them that in addition to a CON bonus would make them a level-adjusted race.

Still, I'm excited for this book. Can't wait until I can get my copy. :D

Orcs are gonna be kick ass in this campaign. No more mindless waves of 5 hp evil things coming at yah. They shoot a lightening bolt us yer ass to begin with now.
