Warforged and negative levels

and one can be permanent while the other is temporary.

The overall effect seems to be 'exactly' the same but one tends to last longer than the other, hence the 'sap' vs 'suppress'.

The first lasts a long time and might last forever whereas the second is completely temporary.

Well, if that's the case, would the warforged be affecting by picking up an oppositely aligned weapon, since it is a "temporary effect"?

It's crazy, man. :confused:

Depends on how the dm rules it. I havent seen enough raw to support either side to say that it is anywhere near definative.

Both constructs and living constructs are immune to energy drain but not directly negative levels.

Given the 'living' condition I doubt many would have a problem with a low level warforged picking up a weapon of opposite alignment and dieing from the negative levels.

Would anyone have a problem with a low hd construct being ordered to pick up the same weapon and immediately 'dieing' from the negative levels?

Constructs are immune to necromantic effects. Enervation and Energy Drain are both necromancy spells. So a normal construct could never get negative levels.

Where's the smurf? He prolly has some good evidence one way or another....

From the Glossary:

negative level
A loss of vital energy resulting from energy drain, spells, magic items, or magical effects.

So, we have:

  • negative levels resulting from energy drain;
  • negative levels resulting from spells;
  • negative levels resulting from magic items;
  • negative levels resulting from magical effects.

I humbly bow to the 'smurf's infinite knowledge.

So, from the looks of what is classified as a "negative level," the weapon in question would bestow a negative level on the Warforged, since it is not an energy drain effect but a magic item as classified above.

Note that while this is true it has nothing to do with the question I asked ;)

But this part is not true if you are going to agree with hypersmurf :cool:

Sounds good hypersmurf. I shall remember this in the future for random construct creatures... I am sure I can come up with a way to make my pcs hate it somehow..lol

If that bothers you, you can make one of the subtlest house rules ever.

A loss of vital energy resulting from energy drain, spells, magic items, or magical effects.

becomes

A loss of vital energy resulting from energy drain: spells, magic items, or magical effects.

apropos of nothing in particular, but in my campaign I houseruled warforged so that they *are* subject to energy drain - since they have CON and a soul, by my book they can be drained. In fact there is a warforged wraith from the first adventuring party at large under sharn right now...

Now that it interesting!!

Eh.. bad news

Any humanoid slain by a wraith becomes a wraith in 1d4 rounds.

Vampire has "A humanoid or monstrous humanoid" as eligible Spawn types.

Living Constructs dont get to come back as undead.

Oops.. I take that back. Skeletons only require a corperal creature :cool:

.. I see an interesting addition on the Karnnathian battleground :)
