Hmmmm, one could say the same about anime now. So they wouldn't yank Caine, they'd just make him into Naruto...

Pffft, Naruto's major abilities (Jutsu) are all much more like those of a Wizard than a Monk. He's not identical, but Wizard is basically as close as you're going to get in a single class in D&D. Which is ironic considering how hyper-fit Naruto is, Wizards being traditionally regarded as unfit, slow, old, ill, etc.

Kind of reminds me of the Wizard/Monk one of my players had in my first 3E campaign, come to think of it.

'Forgies are fine in a magitech setting in theme. Forgies make poor PCs IMHO because they have too many immunities.

The 4e Warforged could easily be different in many respects---immunities, for example.

A whole RACE of sentient constructs doesn't really appeal to me.

But as I said somewhere already, the comments that have been made about how races will work in 4E very much open the door to the possibility that my real issues with them could become ancient history.

But they still shouldn't be core any more than psionics. (Which I love)

Wasn't Blackmoor something like supplement 2 or 3 for OD&D??
I don't recall. But the key word is supplement.

I fully support moving killer robots, at least of the Warforged variety into core. That would be progress.
Good for you.
I fully support making 4E as successful as possible. And poorly designed androids would certainly be progress toward destroying that which I support.

No, the key point is that stuff like Warforged have been part of the game all along. Try this on for size: replace 'Warforged' with 'Mind Flayer', one of the iconic D&D monsters, right? A race inspired by a scifi book cover that EGG saw, that are essentially space aliens with psychic powers (which are so D&D that they're protected IP and not in the SRD).

Psychic aliens... how do they fit into fantasy exactly? D&D has always been a rather broad and inclusive take on fantasy. Not quite inclusive enough to encompass Babylon 5 space fighter craft, though.

And poorly designed androids...
Sez you.

And Eberron's sold pretty well, didn't it? Not exactly killing the brand off...

What use is progress in a fantasy game?

Weren't you the guy who was against Starfuries? Are you now saying that by 6e, We'll have a depate about Volons being a character race or not?

Nope. The Warforged cousins, but not the Warforged themselves.

As a monster, not as a standard race.

So... half-baked solutions, then?

After all, they're just spelljammers with different names.
