ICv2 - 'Warhammer 40K Sixth Edition Rulebook'
  • Warhammer 40K Sixth Edition Rulebook (MSRP $74.25)
  • Gamer’s Edition (MSRP $123.75)
  • Collector’s Edition (MSRP $132)
The massive 452-page, full color hardcover (way up from the 304 pages in the Fifth Edition Rulebook)
... doubles as a product catalog we charge you for!
the new rules add the concept of "allies"... attempt to form alliances that will strengthen the weak points of their own forces.
Great... Cherry pick models from other armies for the cost of another codex. It was one in thing in Apocalypse where a lot of people would have to field multiple armies due to necessity, but those were whole armies. Maybe I'm bitter since as a Tyranid fan, my only chance of having any allies is GW making IG available as genestealer cults.
The new rulebook also contains extensive rules for flying units, and coincidentally Games Workshop has begun to create a new range of ultracool flying war machines.
So get ready for rules changes that scrap the tanks than 5E loved so much, because big fliers are going to get marketed now.

I have a metric butt-ton* of 40k minis sitting in my basement unusued and gathering up dust. Played as my game of choice in the 2e days...and even a little in the 3e days before realizing that 3e was a boring whitewash of a game compared to what I had been playing. Moved on.

I love the 40k universe, and really want to play again...but its really really hard to get a game of 2e with buddies when I can't even fire up an army builder program to make some armies and print out a nice list to hand to them leading in to a teaching session.

So I have sort of been hoping that 6th edition will be a hard reset (no more sort of kind of reusing old codex) and redesign from the ground up. I haven't been out searching for spoilers, but from the little I have heard on the book it seems like another edition may be passing me by.

What I would give for Army Builder to support older editions of the game....

IMHO 5th Edition ruined my horde of nids. Rending (d6 armor pen nerfed to d3) wrecked my genestealers in the tank heavy environment I was playing in. Then the change to No Retreat yanked the rug out from my masses of troops. Thankfully I never invested in any carnifex models so them getting violated by the nerf stick didn't affect me too much.

Those are a lot of terms that I am not familiar with.

I also played genestealers (Genestealer Cult for me) and they could ignore everyone's armor except terminators...and even those they had better than even odds against because they could get a massive amount of hits that would guarantee a failed save.
