Warhammer lore

Yeah, that's something I'm noticing, more than the map of Europe itself. Like the Empire is German, Vampires are Romanian, Southern are italian, Bretonnian are French, Norsca are Norwegians, Orcs are Turks (??).

Dwarfs are drunken Scots...

(Somebody had to say it.)

Finding it might be tough, it came out in ’98, but it is stock full of fluff on the Old World

Seconded, this book is fantastic. Great Art, short spreads on many factions throughout the main world.

Does not have a good description of most of the non empire human countries or most of the pantheon though, but the descriptions of the dwarfs, varieties of elves, greenskins, Chaos, lizard people, undead and so on are great.

More recently they’ve also been depicted with accents from northern England (possibly GoT influence?).

Edit: and weirdly, despite the Norse names and runes, they’re never depicted as sounding Norse.

See if you can find a WFRP 1E core book. It's old but all the important stuff doesn't really change and it really drips WFRP-ness.

Ignore the chapters on Bretonnia; they have changed from top to bottom.

WFRP 1E Brettonia was "France, six months before the revolution". The more modern Bretonnia is a Mallory inspired Arthurian/Robin Hood/Hundred Years War mash up.

edit Nevermind the link to the Wiki, I see someone did that already. edit

One thing to watch out for as you dig into the Warhammer lore pile.....the current version of Warhammer Fantasy, from a tabletop game perspective, has a completely different setting than the "Old World" that is the setting of Total War. Just keep an eye out for the term "Age of Sigmar" as that indicates is the new lore and throws out ALL of the old stuff.

Or don't ignore the chapter - embrace it and ignore everything later. ;)
