D&D 5E Warlock and Repelling Blast

Mechanically? None. There's some flavor connections, in some cases (bat guano, as a good source of nitrates, resonates flavorfully with fireball, for instance). But, no mechanical interaction at all.

What, none?

Components are necessary for the casting of the spell.

So there is one!

The relationship is that if the components haven't been provided, there is no spell effect!

If the components require you to, say, chant three words but you only chant two, then you haven't provided the required verbal component and so the spell never happens. Do you disagree? If so, why?

I think, logically, energy is either there or not-there. It can't be only there for some purposes.

But you're not dispelling the energy, you're dispelling the effect. You cast your dispel magic at some other kind of magical effect.
I'm a little tied up, but can anybody confirm that there are no non-instantaneous magical spells that move as fast as an arrow or even a thrown weapon? And I don't mean something like call lightning where the effect is the little storm cloud thing that keeps zapping what you want it to.

Since I've never said that you can cast a spell without it's components, I read your question as asking if there's any other relationship that the blindingly obvious, and my answer remains no.

You need to refine your Socratic method. Asking questions that have already been answered doesn't lead to revelation.

I think, although it's not completely clear, that the idea is that magical energy which is in the world is an "effect" whether or not it's actually doing anything at the time.

Interesting question. I note also that the spell as written doesn't actually *work* on a "magical effect" which is targeted, as it only dispels spells affecting the target, not the target itself. Also it has no capacity to dispel any non-spell effect. I am pretty sure both of these are just plain errors.

In reference to the later point. Dispel magic has been confirmed to not be intended to work on non spell but yet magical effects. The difference seems to be whether they are cast/replicate an existing spell or not.

Man, this thing is still going?

We won't know until Jeremy Crawford makes a ruling on whether this thread is still going. For obvious reasons, this will only be resolved if you personally ask him the following question:

"What's the longest thread you've ever participated in on a forum that's still going."

As you can see, obviously this will resolve the question.
