Except there's a quote floating around from one of the designers saying that although the power source/role grid is a good place to look to start coming up with new class ideas, some of the combinations are nonsensical and some are more interesting than others.Nyeshet said:To be honest, with 3 power sources and 4 roles, I would have expected 12 classes for the first PHB:

Which means, there may never BE a martial controller and there may be more than one arcane controller or more than one martial strikers.
Some of you have already observed that the "grid" created by lining up power sources on one axis and character role on another axis is a natural first place to look for class ideas. We don't intend to meticulously fill in each possible combination, or even limit ourselves to one class per cubbyhole, but it's an interesting place to start. "
I think this is the one I was thinking of. Yeah, and that`s my point. They don`t intent to fill the entire chart anyways and there may be more than one class in each power source and role combination.Scholar & Brutalman said:It confirms your major point though: WotC are not limiting themselves to populating the role/power array.

JVisgaitis said:They have. Two of each role in the PHB for a total of 8 classes. I think it was in the same video as when they mentioned the 7 classes with their roles. I'm not sold on those 7 classes as definitely in there either. I'd also be surprised if both Controllers are arcane casters.
