Warlock Questions

I'm a little confused about certain abilities of the Warlock.

1. The Curse. It says that they can place it onto the nearest creature, but then it says it can be put on multiple creatures. How I see it is: warlock is facing three creatures. One at 6, one at 8, one at 9. He curses the one at range 6 the uses an at willpower. The creatures don't move. Next round, can he curse the one at range 8 since the creature at range 6 is still alive.

2. Temporary hits. It says, Temp hits from different sources don't stack. What is defined as a source? Is it the power, the creature, the power type?

Cheers in advanced.

You can curse other enemies, but have to move closer to them..

So if 6 is first, then you have to move so 8 is the closest, then you can curse him..

Hmm the temp hitpoints from different sources, i thought even from the same power didnt stack as the hp come from an enemey who died..

The way we play it is that you can curse one target per minor action, and you can only curse the nearest target. So, in your example the warlock would have to re-position to curse the other creatures. Seeing as one of the design aims of 4e seems to be to encourage movement in combat, this makes sense to our group.

2. Temporary hits. It says, Temp hits from different sources don't stack. What is defined as a source? Is it the power, the creature, the power type?

All of the above are sources in my opinion. You only get to have one set of temporary hit points at any time. If you are given a new set of temporary hit points by something, compare this number with your current number of temporary hit points, keep the larger of the two and discard the other number.

Dan

Thanks for the quick responses.

For the curse, thats who I thought it worked just wasn't sure as the person I have playing the Warlock said something different. So it's probably his interpretation of the rules to give him an advantage.

As for the Temp hits, that makes more sense, otherwise the Infernal Warlocks would be unkillable if they could just stack Temp hits.

Thanks for the clarifications guys, was much appreciated.

Another Warlock Question

I didn't want to start a new thread for this question, so I decided to ask it in this one.

Can a Fey Pact warlock, with the Psychic Lock feat, decide not to inflict the -2 attack penalty on his/her victim. I ask this because, unless I am mis-understanding the rules, Psychic Lock makes certain powers (e.g. Crown of Madness and Will of the Feywild) less effective, since the next attack made is against one of the victim's buddies.

Or should the penalty be applied to the next attack the victim makes on his/her own turn?

Any help appreciated.

what generalhenry said. The warlock can only curse the enemy closest to him. And he SHOULD be moving every round, or at least every other round, because he has terrible AC compared to the amount of damage he's able to do. This makes him a very attractive target, so the player should want to stay out of melees and use those stealth abilities.

I'd say no. The feat doesn't say that you may apply the penalty, It just happens. If they intended for you to have the choice, the wording would have indicated that as with the Enlarged Dragon Breath...

I made a warlock who was fairly effective tank. He was dragonborn, with an 18 CON. Infernal pact boon, Hellish Rebuke, Armor of Agathys, The Dragonborn's better surge value and increased effectiveness when bloodied, improved pact boon feat.....2nd level gave him enlarged dragon breath and fiendish resilience..... It was a pretty cool build

I have an infernal warlock as well, with the feat to give +3 temp hitpoints when a minion, I mean curse target, dies. He's definitely stepped in to tank for a round or two before while the defender fell back to heal. Easy to rack up impressive numbers of hitpoints, especially with a Rod of Corruption to help spread the curse around.
