Warlock/Spellthief

I am always brainstorming for my replacement PC in case my current one dies. Since I have been playing DnD forever and a day, I try to come up with off-the-wall characters that are also playable (so no wizard/sorcerers or the like). The other day I came up with the warlock/spellthief. They seem made for each other.

Each class can cast in light armor.
Both classes have CHA as their main attribute, and DEX as the second most useful.
You can sneak attack with your eldritch blast.
You can have unlimited detect magic as a warlock and the ability to steal said magic as the thief.

Most importantly, it would create a character that is VERY different from anything you could make with other combos...and also a character that should be pretty versatile in and out of combat.

Anyway, the reason for the post is to ask if anyone else has tried this concept and how it worked out in real-life as opposed to theory.

The combo is especially nice, if they are two seperate characters. ;)

I'm not sure, if it's a good idea to multiclass between the two, both are classes, that really need to get full class levels to keep their abilities useful.

Yes. As a pair, they are truely excellent.

I think my new dream party is:
- Spellthief
- Warlock
- Ranger / Egoist / Elocator
- Druid

As Thanee mentioned, the 2 classes work really well in the same group too. Spellthief eventually can "borrow" powers from the Warlock. Spellthief PC + Warlock Cohort isn't popular enough :P

These two would make a wicked Gestalt...

No way. Why bother? The whole point is that the Spellthief can steal all-day buffs (which the Warlock can then re-cast, at will).

Spellthief should be Gestalted with something martial (e.g. Ranger, Monk) or something more spell-oriented (e.g. Wizard). Likewise for Warlock.

Warlock/Soulknife/Pyrokinetic* with Spellfire Wielder and Improved Unarmed Combat...

*or Sorcerer/PsyWar/Pyrokinetic if you want to use Mage Armor and Inertial Armor together

Kill everything with your empty hands...

I tried to convince my DM of a barbarian monk. That didnt fly too well.

Barbs have to be chaotic. Monks have o be Lawful. I ended up with someone who went crazy tryingto decide...

My story was: he was a barb, but saw the errors in his way and redeemed. but loses it now and again and flies into rage. but most of the time, he is lawful.

The problem being, of course, that a barbarian who becomes Lawful (an ex-barbarian) retains almost all his class abilities... but he specifically loses the ability to rage :)
