Warlocks and Rogues

"Skill level rises with level" this implies to me they are probably going the Star Wars SAGA route perhaps with a fix.

There is an issue with SAGA with skills only rising at half level, but defenses rising at one per level. This means if skills are used against defenses you actually end up getting less likely to succeed as you increase in level. Maybe they will have skills increase at the same rate.
We've been told that defenses and attack bonuses go up at 1 for every 2 levels. So there's your fix.

We've also been told that the SAGA system was simple because that fits Star Wars, but that D&D will have more detail. So expect some extra skill options.

Well, since it's semi-confirmed that everything (BAB, AC, Defenses) go up by .5 per level now, having skills do the same makes sense. Broader skills is something I've been hoping for, and the SAGA style binary of trained/untrained works for me. I do sort of wonder if it's still going to be +5 for being trained, though. I kind of liked that, so I hope it's in.

Maybe in the next month or so we'll see a completed PC character sheet. That'd be kind of handy. I would also like to see a return to the days of being able to fit your character in a smaller space. Honestly, with a reduction of bonus types, I think the 3.x character sheet could get a lot smaller. I personally like my PC to fit on both sides of a single sheet. Maybe with a scratch-pad for spells or a mount or starship or something. Call me a minimalist if you will.

I just realized that the Star pact would be perfect for the far realms pact source that some people have been wanting(myself included). I also think that the original warlock preview may have held some thing back since they would want some new info to be in the books. *now has more ideas for his 4e game involving a Warlock villain of Cthulhu*

I just want to know what a Star pact is. Is that like selling your soul to Brittney Spears or something? That would be truly awful.
well, nobody said the path of the warlock was easy ;)

I suppose it means an entity or concept or force in the astral realms. Perhaps they could be represented in the sky, in the form of constelations (like in Dragonlance, i suppose, with the moons and the evil goddess coming down to earth and disapearing from the night sky...). Maybe there will be Zodiac Warlocks? :p

(coming to think about it, that's so anime! Saint Seya and the knights of the zodiac, or Sailor Moon and the sailor senshi super sentai... Just Imagine: I'll use my Eldritch Blast "Moon Tiara: Action!" :p )

Don't get too excited about that starry stuff. Recall that this article may be over a month old, but was written more recently than Races and Classes: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20071012a

It makes mention of only three types of pacts: shadowy, infenral, or feral.

:] I'm betting, or at least hoping, that star warlocks will be making pack with Lovecraftian / Far Realm entities dwelling in the darkness between the stars.

perhaps we'll see other types of pacts on the following PHBs then...

I'm fine by that, in fact, opens up a lot of options for future development: same mechanics, new flavor. OTOH, it says "Infernal, Fey, Vestige and Star", so Vestige and Star might be related to shadowy... (or vestige is more of a mechanic and in fact related to all kind of pacts)
