Warlords of the Accordlands - Wow!

AEG Site

While the AEG website hasn't seen significant updates in a while, the Warlords info page certainly has.

For folks wanting a full overview of the campaign's themes, info on Warlord miniatures (no kidding) and some free goodies, it seems the palce to go. And it's current!

I picked up the Master Codex book at Origins last weekend, as a friend of mine wants to start a campaign. Just in looking through it, and investigating some character concepts, I discovered two issues:

1) In Chapter Six: "Race / Class Abilities", each possible race / class combo gets some special abilities. However, this chapter appears to be completely missing these for non-Nothrog shamans (and even those are, for some weird reason, listed out of alphabetical order, appearing after the Cleric section).

2) On p. 237, the Summoner spell list shows a 3rd-level spell called "Conjuration". There is no such spell in the detailed spell list. I'm guessing that "Conjuration" isn't the actual name of the spell (it's a school, for one thing, and the name doesn't fit with the description of the spell: "removes organs from recently dead creatures").

I've started going through the Templates section of the Monsters & Lairs book.

If I have time tonight I'll begin posting all the errors I've just begun to discover.

Looks like very poor editing, some sort of printer snafoo, or just complete incompetance on how to do a template (I doubt the later).

Like the first one, the Abyssal Servant Template.

Sample Abyssal

Abyssal Servant Gallows Fiend

Small ABYSSAL.

Note: Abyssal is not a Creature Type. Its a new subtype introduced in the book. As the Abyssals in the front are all Aberrations, I think the Entry should read:

Small Aberration (Abyssal, Augmented Monstrous Humanoid)

But, even under the Applying the Template Section it talks about how the Creature Type changes to "Abyssal" (Which doesn't exist, Abyssal is a Sub-type Intorduced in this book that applies to various Aberrations afflicted by an 'Abyssal Taint' if you will).

It sort of goes downhill from there.

PS. The Zombie Entry has the same problem as the Skeleton. They have the first part of the Stat Block for each zombie (done by size category), but all those lines that apply to all zombies (Treasure, Organization, CHALLENGE RATING, etc) are no where to be seen.

As they seem to be almost identical to their MM compatriots, It looks they were to be dropped from the book, but something happened & they were only partially dropped.

Ugh!

So I get some of my books in the mail today. First thing I do is flip to page 7 and start reading the Abyssal traits.

Page 8
Immunities lists poison. (nod)
Very next entry.....
Resistances: cold, poison, and electricty resistance 20.

Now what the heck is poison resistance, and why is it listed if they are already immune to poison?

This was the very first entry I read in the book. I wasn't looking deep, it just jumped out plain as day.

The books have a super awesome layout. I suspect that the awesome part may just end there. :sigh:

These things are all only somewhat discouraging to me. Yes, it is a shame that the stats and stuff can't be correct out of the box, but I can mentally correct some of this at a glance. Major gaffes won't affect my campaign, because, in truth, the only one seeing it is me. And I always spice up my dinner plate to suite my own tastes.

I am NOT condoning poor editing and rules gaffes, its just that if the book is easy to read and has a great campaign flavor, I can fix the rest.

But let's hope that a PDF will come out that fixes it all for me. :)

A good deal of the Gaffes seem to be from poor editing rather than rules problems.

Do you know if this will be available as a PDF sometime in the future? I bought all four books already, but having the PDF also helps since I use a PC at gametime.

My contact at AEG says there are no immediate plans to release the Warlords books on PDF, but that those were the immediate plans, and things could change in the future.

Indeed. And while I'd like to take the hit on some of that, all our text, even after checking, went through a final stage of 3.5 editing and other rearrangements. I guess on a project this size some of that was bound to happen.

Someone mentioned the layout was really slick. But only the main book is in color, the monster and adventure books are not? Still waiting for my copies :)

I'm still waiting for them to post a PDF character sheet personally. Any chance of us seeing one on the site soon, DM_Jeff?
