Warrior VS Wizard PVP! Fluffy the wizard killer

Dead fluffy
Dead fluffy
Dead fluffy isn't much fun

He can't win, he'll just fall
He can't beat wizards at all
Dead fluffy isn't much fun

My fluffy died on the arena floor
He's still rotting near the door
Dead fluffy isn't much fun, no no no
DM says fluffy's days are through
Because of something we thought you knew
Wizards just won't lose to you...

You won't learn how to play D&D (or how to DM as per the other thread) by setting up a 20th level warrior vs. wizard challenge. You will learn D&D by playing it. You will learn faster by playing it with an experienced DM.

I don't have an 'experienced' DM. Our DM left to go to the UK for an OE. he is gone for good and i have inherited his books and a group of players that im supposed to DM for.

its been exam time for us for the last month; im done now and they will be done in a week, by which time i need to know the game or they'll probably lose interest.

i cant play with people and there is no experienced DM.

so please stop being rude and give helpful advice. Or dont. silence is always nice if you cant be polite.

If you're allowed multi/prestige classing, why not the Wizard? It's unrealistic to assume every arcane caster you face is going to be a straight Wizard 20. What about a Human Wizard 5/Loremaster 4/Divine Oracle 2/Initiative of the Sevenfold Veil 7/Archmage 2? IotSV give the Wizard plenty of defensive options against you before even casting a single spell. The Wizard doesn't need True Strike to hit your AC. (I'm ignoring the fact that it shouldn't be targeting your AC most of the time.) It could just Shapechange in to something with a high strength, or a high dexterity for ranged touch attacks.

Yes, I refresh as I clean.

Seriously, though, I am trying to point the guy in the right direction. He isn't going to learn D&D by fighting with people online about warriors vs. wizards, or by trying to optimize his 20th level fighter.

Better if he:
- tries an online game (even if he just sits in) before he starts DMing his own players
- tries "Encounters" (even though it is 4E)
- thinks about how he will set up his upcoming campaign and asks us about his ideas, as others have done

bah and humbug to you sir. my learning methods are my own business.

and for the record, building pvp chars has taught me HEAPS. i always learn best when theres a challenge, and i always do better at challenges that involve fighting.

taking arcane caster levels is against the purpose of the exercise, sadly. otherwise, yes it would be a much more efficient.

the high touch AC is not to defend against melee attacks by the wizard, it is to defend against spells, stuff like dimension lock, or no-save scorching ray, etc.

i thought 44 AC would be enough!...how high can the wizard get his ranged touch attack up to by shapechanging?

would 60 touch AC be high enough?

thanks for the help :)

Come on, a 20th level Warrior can totally slay a 20th level Wizard, in 9 easy steps:

1. Take the Leadership feat
2. Get a Wizard / Master Specialist (Abjuror) / Archmage cohort (with Mastery of Shaping)
3. Have him craft you lots of awesome stuff, cause cohorts are great for that
4. Before the battle, have him buff you with fly / overland flight and any other goodies* you can think of
5. Request a happy ending -- Using his Major Esoterica to cast a personal range abjuration on someone else and his mastery of shaping ability for a donut hole, grab an Anti-magic Field with your space clear so you can still fly and stuff unhindered.
6. Engage that poor sap of a Wizard 20
7. Fly right up to his face, and ready an action to shadow him wherever he tries to move so he can never get out of the AMF long enough to cast.
8. Do NOT grapple him! It will pull move you and your magic-safe space into his and then he will kill you horribly!
9. Rinse and repeat, trying to get tripping in (on an AoO, probably) when you can so he can't Withdraw.

See? Easy!

*Some method of seeing invisible and into the ethereal plane at a bare minimum. Anticipate Teleportation would be sexy, too.

sigh* i love innovative D&D can be.

hasn't the wizard gone first and gated in a bunch of dragons though?

isnt he wearing a tin hat/have contingencies against AMF?

donut-shaped AMF sounds like heaps of fun for all the family

Don't be mean, StreamofTheSky. I'm beginning to think he wants a serious answer.
