Watchmen (Expect Spoilers inside)

When the glass city/platform crashed and then the scene pulled away you probably noticed that the crater was a huge smiley face but...

...Did you notice on Ozy's huge bank of TV screens when he was watching the 2 come in on CCTV from the snow that there was a Marvin the Martian Cartoon, where Marvin looked through a telescope at the Earth.

A Nice reference to Dr Manhatten looking down at Earth from Mars as well ;)

Being a fan of HPL I prefer the original concept of the insanity inducing alien squid, but the plot felt much more plausible with the choice they made for the movie.

Yah. The giant alien squid was... a bit more cheesy than strictly necessary. The movie's ending is far more plausible, insofar as it introduces fewer major wacky things that folks (both within the movie and outside it) have to swallow.

I still like the comic book ending better, although the movie ending is thematically better. Of course, people who haven't read the comic may wonder about the Outer Limits prominently displayed on TV at the end. That ties in with the comic ending, which was ripped off from the show (The Architects of Fear, starring Robert Culp), with that thrown in to acknowledge it. (It was in the comic, too.)

After rereading the comic book ending I can understand why it's there. I do like that it was bloody and in your face as well.

I like that they still payed homage to the squid. While the camera panned closer across some terminals, one of the terminals dsiplayed something like "Project S.Q.U.I.D. imminent." I smiled when I saw that.
