Water-soluble markers for Battlemap?

Since I first got my chessex battlemap about 15 years ago I've always used the Staedtler water soluble (sp?), non-permanent markers with it. My brown and green recently ran out so I went looking to buy new ones. To my shock and dismay, I have found that almost every store no longer sells the pens individually but only sells them in packs of 6 or 7 (all the colours of the rainbow). Well, I don't want to pay for an entire pack b/c I only want brown and green (they also sell black in 2-packs, but I've got plenty of those). In my hunt, I discovered that several stores said individual pen sales have been discontinued. Going to Staedtler's website reveals that brown pens are no longer featured at all and the others all come in packs.

Does anyone use a different type of marker/pen? Obviously, it must be non-permanent and I'd prefer to know if you've used it before with the chessex battlemaps.

Any help out there?

Vis-a-Vis markers come individually, and in packs. I often see the 4-color packs in office stores, but my local Dick Blick art store carries 8-color packs, and individual markers too.

I would think college bookstores would have these markers, as they are most popular for overhead projector transparencies.

I purchased my Vis-a-vis markers individualy, too. I'm pretty sure they come in brown, although I don't have one of those, myself.

Yup. Brown is one, as are Green, Blue, and Black, that I use. I do not use the Yellow (which is too tough to see), nor do I use the Red, Orange, or Purple (all of which can stain because of something in their "red")

Battlemats and the like. White boards are for "DRY" erase markers.

Battlemat with plexi glass from home depot 14 $ (just a little bit bigger than the largest chessex mat)......with grease pencils (also called china markers). No water needed to wipeoff plexi (or any other chemical).

We have used the same hex Chessex mat for over 10 years, and it looks brand new thanks to the plexi.

ART supply stores, give them a call and ask for the Staedtler red markers with the grey "body"
