wave of spam -- just me?

Is it just me? The past couple of days I've been deluged with spam, much worse than normal. Some kind of worm going around?

Did you recently put your email up on a webpage? Did you or someone else recently link to a webpage that has your email address on it?
(e.g.: The link to your website in your signature. Your website has your email address at the top of the first page)

I've had that out there for years, I was just curious if the past couple of days had been any worse than normal for others. Even my spam filter isn't catching most of it...

I think something is going on...

Fellow employee, who monitors spam and mail boxes from work, has said we have been seeing an increase, Saturday 04/17 saw us hit with 6500 spam messages blocked in a one hour period (less than 300 employees, 21 messages a person).

I have my filter set to the highest level (nothing gets to my inbox) have been been getting an average of 15 messages that make it to my 'suspected folder'. That has been a bit higher, was about 5 two or so weeks ago.

Spam has consistantly been undergoing a massive increase in volume for the past several years. According to www.theregister.com Spam is now up to a third of all email and I believe it is set to hit half by the end of the year.

It could be just you, then again it could be just me, or it could be both or all of us.

I noticed this after joining a email list for a gaming company I wrote something for. I sent in the blank email, the reply said, "one click registration". I have no idea if it was needed for me to click that link or not, but it wasn't 1 click registration, instead I had to fill out a "3" page form, but I only got to page 2 before saying screw you. The reason? It would not let me go to page 3 without checking one of the dozen boxes indicating I "wanted" spam from one of those topics.

The thing is, when I checked my email I found spam from this company saying, "Congrats, you are registered". Then another 3 regarding my attempted login/registration.

The next morning I woke up to 23? spam messages, up about 90 percent from normal I'd guess.

So, my advice, do not sign up for topica.com .

this is why I ended up developing a scheme of emails for different purposes. I know that not everyone is capable of doing this, but it works really well for me.

Currently, only two of my address get any spam.

My cable modem account has been relatively free of spam, though I have seen an upsurge on that one lately. My website e-mail (which I'd had posted on my site for quite awhile - stupid on my part) is at least 90-95% spam or viruses. I'd turn it off, but I have to re-direct a number of things before I do, which I haven't gotten around to yet.
