Why do you think the 3.5 label was egrerious marketing?

Seems self-apparent to me, but "half-editions" are just not a thing. Calling it "Fourth Edition" in 2003, which we know from Monte Cook tge 3.5 changes were planned for an eventual 4E, wiuld have been embarrassing. Hence the dumb marketing speak moniker.

Only in some states, mostly along the East Coast. The majority of states had mile-based exit numbering from the start.

Maps are updated electronically...oh I forgot who I was talking to.

If I'm driving in the US (or anywhere else except Canada) it's paper maps all the way. My car pre-dates having such conveniences as electronic maps or a viewscreen built in, and I'm not willing to pay our cell carrier's ridiculous data roaming charges.

If 3.5 should properly have been called 4e, does that make this year's books 7e?

I intend on getting the 5E24 books and when talking about the game here on the boards will most likely not bother identifying "which version" I'm speaking of... as I'm going under the assumption that almost all talk in this specific board will be about the current version of D&D (or be edition-neutral). Then if anyone intends on specifically talking about the old 5E14 version only, I'll let them point it out in their post.

In that case, talk of the 2014 books should be in the older editions forum.
