Most of what is I'm the OP has been confirmed by Mearls on Twitter; still think there is room for everything they have said in 320 pages.

It's east to meet someone's expectations when those expectations are not particularly high. I don't think there's any possibility that it will deliver what I want, but I imagine it'll do what I expect and probably do that quite well.

The good ol' Efreeti-cover AD&D DMG only had 232 pages and covered a metric boatload of stuff, even written in the venerated Mr. Gygax's around-your-elbow-to-get-to-your-thumb prose style. It can be done!

I hope so, I was going through the 3.5e guide earlier and it was 320 pages and it actually provided most of what I would want in a DMG. So I do have high hopes, but I think 5e will meet my expectations for sure. There are some things not in that guide (such as mass combat). But since we KNOW some of that stuff will be in 5e that wasn't in the 3.5 guide, I think im going to be extremely happy with it.

There was a similar topic several months ago, but to avoid thread necromancy for relevance.... Will the DM guide deliver on the topics we want? It seems like every other thread I go into, in some form, a post says "It'll be in the DM guide". I know there are a lot of things that WILL be in there, but it seems like the book is going to be 500 pages from the stuff that we want. Just off the top of my head the things that I can remember that people want are....

CR monster list (which is available online)
Magic Item Creation
Monster Creation
Class (or at least subclass) creation
Wandering monster lists
Spell points
How to create spells
Lingering wounds
World building
Support for different eras (futuristic etc)
Expanded support for evil stuff
Involved combat rules
Variant rules for skills
Variant Proficiency (using dice)
Creating your own feats, and general balancing issues
Mass combat rules
Kingdom building rules
General downtime rules
Detailed encounter building
Templates
Expanded races/race creation
Level 20+ / epic rules
Gestalt characters

Again, that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure you could randomly click any topic here on enworld, and on wizards.com/community sites and find a new want. So do you think it'll actually deliver on everything we want? I think it's a favorable sign that they pushed it back a few weeks. They know they need to get this book completely right.

It will include everything on this particular list, with the possible exception of kingdom building rules.

I selected it will "meet expectations" based on that criteria.

Will it have everything I'd like? No. Will it give me everything I need? No. I'll have to house rule. Will there be things that are unexpectedly missing that will really tick me off? Yes. Will it be a good book that I'll use as a starting point to house rule from? Yes. Will I consider it worth it? Yes.

Judging by the PHB and MM, I am confident the DMG will be a very, very good book. It obviously won't have every single little rule that every single person wants (an impossible task), but I am confident that there will be a LOT of useful content.

This. The Player's Handbook is well done, fine and serviceable. The Monster Manual, however, is a tour de force; probably the best iteration of the MM I've ever seen.

If the DMG meets even a halfway point between these two in quality, it will be excellent. And seeing as it was done by the same creative crew in the same time period(s), I've got no reason to expect less.
