We bought a house!

I know your pain. I detest apartments. Now that we will have a place with more than one bathroom, we will have a space for people to visit, such as if someone wanted to go to a NC Game day. ;)
Congrats! Great news! I'd probably be even more hearty about my congratulations, but we just had to replace the circuit board on our furnace for $500! Yay, home ownership! :\

Actually, we have been renting a house for two years and one of the biggest issues we had is the inability to change anything. We cannot wait to have something that is our own.

Congrats.
I agree with the other homeowners it is great to own your own.
Even with the work involved (I never invisioned how much chainsawing there is when you own 3 acres of trees) it is great.

All these people who bought after renting for so may years amazes me. The thought of paying $500-$800+ to a landlord over so many years gives me butterflies. I understand credit issues, and extremely high home prices, but I always suggest looking into buying, as early as possible.

The reason I won't be settling into home buying for quite a while isn't because I wouldn't have the credit. My job is just too mobile to place that kind of investment in a house.

It'll be four years this December since my gf and I purchased. I'm still amazed at how we pulled this off, given that we were two 24-year-old kids in the frickin' S.F. BAY AREA (one of, if not THE most expensive locations in the country, for those who don't know) without fancy jobs or anything. Thankfully, her parents had a nice nest egg saved up that they let us borrow from to put as a down payment. It's tough, especially once it sinks in that YOU have to fix and pay for everything, but eminently worth it.

I'll hear every now and then about someone I went to high school with, who has kids and a wife and a dog and still lives in an apartment. Makes me shudder.

Congrats on the home.

I bought mine 3 years ago, and it's been wonderful. It's not perfect, but it's home and it's mine.

I was lucky, and only spent 13 months in an appartment with my GF, and even that wasn't too bad, but it was the first and hopefully the last time I'll live in an appartment.
