We bought a house!

I'll be 42 this month, and have never owned my own home. That's one of the things that drove a wedge between me and my wife. We made a lot of bad money decisions early on in our marriage that have haunted us for 15 years. Buying a house would've been very hard for us because of the ruinous credit score we racked up.

Ironically, now that we're getting divorced, credit wise we're both in better shape than years... lol

Good luck and congrats with the new place! When's the first big ENWorld game day there?

We just bought a house in Richmond. We close next Friday. We went through our walkthrough yesterday. Looking good. We'll be happy to get out of our apt. We had a house in KC, but rented an apt. when we moved here.

I love home ownership, but hate mowing the yard! I enjoy fixing up the house, though. It gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Congratulations on your purchase. You won't regret it.

Everyone warned us about money when we first got married. It can have a real effect on a marriage.

As far as I know, the next gameday (9th) is set for January 21st and the big 2 day event is April 22-23. Both are at the Talley Student Center at NCSU.

That's great to hear! Our walkthrough is set for Oct. 26. Our first project is interior painting. The former owners had bad taste.

Congrats! Too bad it's in Cary. ;)

My g/f and I bought a house last year. Pretty scary stuff...the stacks of paperwork we signed were unreal. But we're very happy with it. It feels great to stop throwing away our money on rent...now we throw it away on interest! :)

This rocks, mang!

Awesome. :) Welcome to the only debt you'll ever find yourself grinning about.

We rented for 20 years before we got a house. Even the problems well up inside you as "MY Problem!". That sense of ownership in land is everything its cracked up to be. Primal. :)

All these people who bought after renting for so may years amazes me. The thought of paying $500-$800+ to a landlord over so many years gives me butterflies. I understand credit issues, and extremely high home prices, but I always suggest looking into buying, as early as possible.

I worked with a client recently who had been renting for seventeen years. She told me, on average, she had been paying $600/month over that time period. When I told her that she had spent over $120,000 on rent, she teared up, and had a mini melt down.

I guess I'm lucky to live in a place where housing is still relatively cheap. Of course, we make up for it by our long and cold winters.
