We Had a Great Game Last Night (Update: Riddles by Request)

Legend
Last night's halfling game was fantastic, with great roleplaying, dungeon crawling, riddles, specialized random halfling treasure charts- it was great fun!

I was a little worried about the riddles; a good riddle can really bring a game to a screeching halt. But my players are sharp, and they managed to solve three out of four riddles in about a total of an hour and ten minutes! :D (They actually had talked over the the correct solution to the one they missed, but chose a different answer.) The one they missed didn't hurt them, either; it just meant that they missed a hint about something else (which hasn't hurt them so far, frankly).

Sigh... successful adventures with riddles in them are tricky, but damn rewarding when done successfully. I'm glad this one worked. :)

It's good to see positive things like this posted. By nature, messageboards tend to have posts that detail problems and negativity.

Good for you!

I miss these...it has been at least 9 months since I've been in game session that I would call great...well, there were some one shots but that's a different breed.

That's great.
I am terrible at riddles. If I make it up it sucks (either too easy or too hard) and if I use one I find of course one of the players knows it also.
It is nice to read threads where a fun session was accomplished. Like this one and PC's Hungry Lizard.

It kills me to read that. At least for me (and I'm fully willing to admit that my opinion may be skewed), I'd say that between Sagiro and I half of our campaign games are really fun, and almost all the rest are fun. Every now and then both he or I run a real clunker (like a month or so ago in my game -- ouch), but the majority are a real hoot to be at. I've played in crappy games before, but they just don't work for me any more.

I would say that 1 in four of my recent games is really fun, and 1 in four is bad. We were playing CotSQ and it is a long dungeon/hackfest in most of our six hour sessions there is some that is good and some that sucks, (usually arguments over rules). In the last game my melee monster cleric dished out 134 dmg with his pickaxe, and on his next chance to attack 101 dmg killing the balor. Of course then he was reduced to a small pile of ash. (-57hp) I tried to convince the DM of this but he ruled there was still a body remaining. *sigh* just once I want to be Ash or smoking boots.

We later spent 30 min over pizza trying to figure out how to make a Huge dire shark (WS Druid) useful as it was his only possible huge form. "okay so fly of course and I could cast a quickend Create water every couple of rounds - can a shark still bite while holding its breath? "
we eventually gave up on the idea, but had lots of fun trying.
In between we were railroaded some, and spent some time arguing rules. Nights have thier ups and downs.

Next we play paranoia and only two of us know the rules, and I can be shot for mentioning them. It should work out. :)
