We need psionics!!

I have not seen the Psychic's handbook from Green Ronin. Perhaps someone could elaborate on it.

Nevertheless, I would prefer a system similar to 3.5 psionics that is supported by WotC. I like 3.5 psionics very much but the classes and powers are obviously more suited for D&D. I also feel that psionics in d20 Modern and Urban Arcana were slap together without much thought.

I thought I recalled reading about "a new psionics system" in the original d20 Future description. What happened?

Regardless of what system you prefer, what is it that you want to see in a Sci-Fi psionics system?

I'd like to see something based on the XPH, with the following caveat:

The Mage class is overpowered. Just compare it to the Field Scientist class, and you'll see why. (Come to think about it, nearly any Modern FX is overpowered :( ) A psion class has to be balanced with the core classes and the AdCs in chapter six, since it will be used in games with these other classes.

There's no point of including Metacreativity or Psychoportation, IMO, as there aren't enough powers to justify it.

The primary ability score should be Wisdom IMO... and the fraal need a rewrite, although for many other reasons as well.

You could but you'd have to be careful of removing any trademarks you do not own.

Which is why we offer The Psychic's Handbook as a "safe harbor" for deriving (and improving) the skill-n-feat model of psionics.

If you're just running a campaign at home, you don't need to worry. I'm certainly not suggesting that someone who is looking to publish some stuff use the Star Wars system.

I tend to agree that Metacreativity and Psychoportation are not intended for Sci-Fi style psionics.

However, I slightly disagree about Wisdom being the ability score for psionics. Telepaths should use Int. Those illusion-manifestining Telepath's from Star Trek's "The Cage" semed pretty smart.

Just got RPObjects new pdf. Blood & Spooks and it has a big boost for D20 Modern psionics.

Three new Advanced classes; Clairvoyant, Geomancer & Medium.

Clairvoyant is a Seer-type class who sees dead people.

Geomancer is a shaper-type class that focuses on Chi powers that manipulate positive and negative energies.

Medium is a bit of both seer & shaper that comunicates with spirits and manipulates etherplasm.

The book also has over 50 new psionic powers, most from the psionic handbook, but several new ones based on Chi and Mediums.

The rest of the book provides "Ghostbuster" stats for weapons and equipment that can be used for ghost hunting and of course information for the ghosts and haunted places.

I wasn't very happy with Blood and Fists or Blood and Guts. However Blood and Space, Blood and Circuits, and Blood and Spooks are good.

My only question regarding the latter is why have the fastest path to Clairvoyant be Charismatic? Clairvoyants seem a little too odd to be charming.

The Psychic's Handbook uses a skill-n-feat mechanics concept similar to Star Wars. Powers are divided into 7 Psychic Talents (acquired as feats), each of which would allow access to one or several psychic powers (counted as skills). Much like Star Wars, each use of the power cost points, which is called Strain. In standard hit point system, Strain is counted toward nonlethal damage. (I strongly recommend using 3.0e subdual rule damage -- aka 3.5e nonlethal damage -- for d20 Modern).

No doubt WotC would do that, in order to make it easier for D&D (and XPH) fans to play d20 Modern. Unfortunately, some of us D&D fans didn't think the "work like spells" model is proper for psionics. I'm not saying WotC is wrong. I just disagree with the model they chose for psionics.

They ran out of pages. See the "JD and Moridin" thread for details.

Is it similar to the XPH, or skills and feats? Did they kill MAD?

It follows the D20 Modern psionic rules from the core rule book & Urban Arcana. These books have the Telepath, Battle Mind & Psionic Agent advanced classes.

It is more like the 3.0 Psionic Handbook than the XPH. They do use Multiple Ability scores, but the choice in powers are much more "class focused" with each advanced class having a specific power list.

Other RPObjects Blood & ____ books have had a little psionic content, Blood & Brains for example has a Psychokinetic advanced class.

I hope we might see a Blood & Crystal book next year that would pull all the psionic content together into one book (hint, hint)
