We need to talk

I Just got this e-mail from my sister:

Ok, we need to talk.

I watched a very disturbing docu-drama on the lifetime network last night. It was about this very smart, very well brought up young man orchestrated the killings of his mother and step-father. His mother survived. Apparently, this was brought on by the young man’s falling into the wrong crowd in college and his introduction to the Dungeons and Dragons. The prosecutions case was very compelling. In addition to the promotion of killing by clubs and daggars, it promotes self-gratification without consequence.

I strongly hope you find this film and watch it. It is entitled “Honor Thy Mother”

It may not be too late to save you
Thankfully, she was kidding. My response:
If you ever mention this again, I will kill you with a dagger. Please note the correct spelling of the weapon.

Sincerely,
Your Brother
13th level Dungeon Master
I love my sister. :D

hehe

It's amazing to me that stories like this still circulate in this world of Electronic fantasy games and immersive WoW experinces. I understand she was joking but I've recently studied with the Jehovah's Witnesses and they firmly believe that God, which the bible states hates spritism, dislikes D&D.

I am now studying with the Lutheran's and thier take on it is that its a game. My pastor asked me (after admitting to having played the game while in college) who is in control of the game, you or the game? So long as it remains you then there is certainly nothing wrong with it.

This is actually completely true, I'm afraid. God does not play dice and doesn't like games that use them either. He is very fond of Everway and Amber Diceless Roleplaying, however.

That's great! It reminds me of when my brother and I started playing Magic. My aunt was honestly concerned and confronted us to make sure that it wasn't going to result in devilworship or voodoo. "No, it's not evil. It's actually just about comparing numbers." That helped ease her mind.

A funny twist would be if he attacked her because he is a 3.5 fan and she forbids anything but OD&D in her house!

If they hate D&D because the Bible forbids "spiritism" then they would be better off picketting John Edwards and all those other phoney-baloney mediums (which is, of course, all of them).
