The one-two punch of that review and the free copy of Legends, on top of the already good hype, has pushed me over the fence, Denizens is now on my too be acquired list. I should note though that it's not the fact that it passed John's mechanics test (though that is an admirable feat) but that the other details in his review have piqued my interest in the setting in general.

I understand that quality products can take time, so I'm not looking for an exact date, but can you give us a ballpark idea of when The Avadnu Primer might see release? In the meantime, it looks like your website is a good start for those interested in the setting.

Since I felt that it was more appropriate to reply in this thread instead of the other one, here is what I think of Legend.

Too bad an epic monster book is of little use to me

But beside that the production values are excellent, artwork is great and I liked the monsters in the book.

I also liked the web support for the product, especially the tokens.

I've really enjoyed both Denizens and Legends thus far, and I only have one complaint : the use of non-descriptive names while encouraging a more alien feel has made it difficult for me to match a monster concept up with the monster's name. A name like Voidmarked Fiend would be incredibly more useful to me than a name like Xxyth. When I want to include manifestations of chaos that should not exist in my games I don't make that logical leap to Xxyth that I should.

Well, 90% of the writing is done for the Avadnu Primer right now. Pretty much all that is needed are a couple sections need to be fleshed out, proofreading, and of course the hard edit. The problem is the state of the industry right now, and the risk of us going to print with another full color product. Denizens did well for a new publisher, but we didn't hit the break even point yet. What I am thinking of doing, is releasing it as a PDF early next year and going to print sometime afterward. We have a lot to consider and take a look at. As soon as we have a definite answer, you'll see it posted on our website. Its very safe to say 1st quarter 2005 in one form or another.

Oh boy, is our Editor going to give it to me for that one! We didn't want to strip down all of the names and make them all entirely generic. Alex, our aforementioned Editor, was a big champion for this very cause and a lot were made generic because of that. We tried for a 50/50 mix, with the specific names being the easier to remember creatures such as the xxyth.

In other news, Chaositech and of Avadnu monsters seem to mesh together with minimal effort.

We considered doing these, but I'm not a fan of them. There were a lot of requests for them, so it is something we would do in the future. We'll probably add those in when we release Digital Denizens.

We are going to submit both Legends of Avadnu and Denizens of Avadnu to Monte Cook's Best of d20. Any ideas what we should submit? I was thinking maybe the xxyth from DoA and the lumina from LoA. What do you think?

Denizens was a great book content-wise. My biggest beef was that the binding practically disintegrated with my copy. It soon became worthless to me and I got rid of it.
