Wealth for characters starting above first level?

Does anyone know of the proper way to determine starting Wealth for characters above first level? So far the only options I see are to determine starting Wealth for a 1st-level character, and then go through level advancement with Profession checks until the appropriate level is reached; or to use Table 7-2 on p. 204, which I'm almost certain is not what I'm looking for, as it seems to address the spare Wealth a certain level character might have lying around, not starting Wealth.
