Can a monk take this?

Relevant information:

An unarmed strike is two size categories smaller than the combatant using it. (PHB 97)

If a weapon's size category is smaller than yours, it is a Light weapon. (PHB 97)

For Weapon Finesse, "Choose one light weapon" (PHB 86)

Hmmm. That means medium size creatures can only take weapon finesse with small or tiny weapons.

I'm sure I've had characters with 'Weapon finesse: Rapier' in the past..

oops :)

If you look at the Weapon Finesse feat description, it lists Rapier and Spiked Chain as allowable exceptions to this rule, so no problem there:D

If i recall correctly under the decription of rapier in PHB a rapier is consider a light weapon for people that can wield it in one hand.

You can apply Weapon Finesse to some specific medium-size weapons, and rapier is one of them. There are a few others, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Yeah, I only mentioned the applicable portions of the feat, since an unarmed attack is not a rapier.

I guess next time I should include the whole SRD to protect myself from smartass comments, right? ;)
