Weapon Focus for Splash Weapon

Could you take Weapon Focus (Splash Weapon) or would you have to specify a specific type of splash weapon, ala Weapon Focus (Alchemist Fire) or Weapon Focus (Holy Water)? On one hand, "Splash Weapon" isn't "one type of weapon" like the feat requires. But on the other, is there much difference between attacking with a vial filled with holy water and a vial filled with acid?

What are thoughts on:
1) the RAW, and
2) the balance (or unbalance) of a house rule to allow WF(Splash Weapon)?

Thanks!!

With WF you need proficiency with the weapon selected.

There are no proficiencies for Splash weapons.
So, per RAW, no, you can't.

That said, WF for them would not, IMO, be unbalancing.
They do, however, work with Point Blank Shot, at least, insofar as the bonus on attack rolls, as to how the extra point of damage would apply is for another time. I'm not even going to go past that.

1. No. You similarly could not get Weapon Focus (bludgeoning weapon), or worse Weapon Focus (melee weapon). Both are similar in concept to what you suggest.

2. I can't imagine a scenario where it would be unbalanced. Go for it.

Weapon Focus(Flask)?

Not a weapon that can be proficiencied, since its improvised. However, invent a War Flask, a Martial Weapon designed to be more aurosynamic or whatever, and you're good.

I think there is a feat somewhere giving you +1 to hit and damage with all splash weapons. (Maybe Races of the Wild... halflings love thrown weapons, after all.) And there's a nice tactical feat in PHB2 for thrown weapons as well.

And after you get to epic levels, you can take the feat Augmented Alchemy! It's totally worth it! (Or more likely, convince your DM to make it a non epic feat which requires a smaller increase in crafting DC.)

...aurosynamic ...
That sounds so much like a real word, I had to google it just to make sure. ^_^

By RAW, I would say no, but it would not be unbalancing. Complete Arcane specifically does allow WF (Ray) which then works with all Ray spells (not just specific ones) which would be a very comparable ruling.
