Weapons of Legacy preview

Wow...that's really, really cool. I was neutral about WoL before(even though I'd called it from way back when it was being hinted at), but this has definitely got my interest.

Still, I'll almost definitely be picking this one up. Hopefully all the weapons will have those great historical details.
Oh trust me, they do. Each and every one of them. :)

I'm not entirely clear on those legacy feats. The way the section is worded it looks like you get those as bonus feats.
You are correct. The legacy feats are "granted" feats that you get for successfully completing an item of legacy ritual. You don't have to burn any of your level-dependant feats at all. :D

Maybe even better news!

I'll be getting this book. :)

Sonofapreacherman, how many weapons are their and do they cover even the most unquie weapons? (at random sai, and a whip)

Though I'm rather unsure what those feats do. Do they open up the abilities on the table up to Xth level (10th, 15th, 20th, maybe?)?

Another vote for "Looks neat" . I haven't played it in years, but didn't Earthdawn do something pretty similar to this? Like, excatly? Not that It's a bad thing.

I'm not sure how many weapons made the final cut but Travis and I created a whole bunch of them. Some were common, some were exotic. That's all I'm saying. ;)

You got the right idea. To quote the preview...

"Here's basically how it works: Once a character has taken possession of an item of legacy, she must discover the secrets of its past. Each piece in the item's historical puzzle reveals a ritual to be performed by the item's wielder. As each ritual is successfully completed, the character gains a Legacy Feat that unlocks a portion of the item's powers."

As stated above, that legacy feat is a "bonus" feat. :)

That’s completely understandable. :) Can you say how many you made? Even roughly? :)

Yep, that's what I based my guess on. :)
I wonder if the legacy feats could theoretically taken as normal feats, but since the prerequisites are propably "perform the proper ritual," that would be ... unnecessary, to say the least. ;)

I would be curious as to how similar this entire approach was to the intelligent item procedure set forth by Monte Cook in his third EM book (the Nexus book); later a part of Eldritch Might for the 3.5 adjusted, collected edition of all three Books of Eldritch Might from Malhavoc {3.0 edition.}

Either way, I would certainly be intruiged by the choices that the designers at WOTC have taken, although if it follows Monte's path too similarily, then a purchase is sure not a definite event ;-)

Cheers, eh!
