As what? An art medium? I know it's hard to believe, but that's like saying I don't like fiction or cartoons as anime is used to tell all manner of stories, just not Dragon Ball Z or Inuyasha.

Too many years of having the style forced on me has led to the point I almost have a physical sickness when encountering manga or anime for any extended periods of time. I think it's in my head. This has been getting worse -- especially over the last few months.

Which is sad since I bet I could enjoy some of it. Blame all of the freaks that wouldn't leave me alone for several years.

The robots sure are cool, though.

I've seen a lot of people on this and other boards talking about using enormous oversized weapons. Not my cup of tea, but if that's the genre they're emulating I don't think there's any reason to be mean about it.

JoeGKushner: True. While anime often has the completely over-the-top stuff, the form has also been used for quiet, understated, even realistic story-telling.

But not very often.

I just can't believe nobody has commented on Hand of Evil's "Shocking Gasp Whip." Maybe that should be in the BOEF

I've rarely made unique items - mostly as a DM I've cribbed them from other sources. For instance:

--A Tattoo Dagger
This starts as a cold Iron Matte Grey Dagger +2 with a command word; by speaking the command word and pressing it to flesh, it sears into the skin (causing 1 point of damage) and magically becoming a small tattoo of a dagger. (Detect Magic can reveal its presence, but the dagger/tattoo cannot be destroyed.) Speaking the command word again causes it to disappear and the dagger rematerializes in your hand.

--Throwing stars of Tatsu Devil-Stalker
This tiny Dagger and matching throwing stars are each +4 weapons of returning; they magically return to the thrower's hand at the beginning of the thrower's turn. Upon wielding and concentrating, they also can glow with a light enamanation of 5 foot radius.

One was cribbed from a TSR source (I do not know where); the other was inspired by the three weapons on the belt of the G.I. Joe 3-inch action figure Storm Shadow.

That's the "Zanbatou," wielded for like three episodes by a character from Rorouni Kenshin, an Anime series about an assassin during a revolutionary era who has repented and now tries to save lives. Able to cut through a mounted man on a horse and the horse itself according to legend, it is wielded by the sellsword Zanza. It represents his brash, bold, no-holds-barred type of personality, which is more into impressing people than being effective in combat. Big and heavy, the sword is no match for speed and accuracy, as the wandering samurai/assassin proves in battle.

That's the "Buster Sword," the iconic weapon of Cloud Strife, in a CRPG game about a genetically engineered supersoldier fighting against the corrupt entities that created him, and the monster that they created. Yeah, it's probably sitting in the ground. Think of his feet being probably at the beginning of the next paragraph-ish...Here is a pic of it in more action.

Speaking of that game....

That's the "Masamune," the iconic weapon of Sephiroth, in the same CRPG game. He's the monster. Sadly, no pics of it in action, but suffice it to say, he uses it with one hand.

These are all MASSIVE swords. Wielded with skill. By badasses. Yeah, I think it works as an archetype.

That's a DAMN big icing spreader that boy...girl...human (?)...being has. Even big enough for a giant. I bet he stole it from Jack, those dirty thieves. Disgusting, dirty thieves, stealing poor giant-wive's icing spreaders.
