Weapons

The only magical weapons that my eigth-level PC has (besides some occassional arrows) are a pair of +1 Claws, which he uses when he isn't using his own... He also carries "the usual", two quivers of 60 arrows & 6 bows, each (Well, no... Actually, since he is carrying one in his hand, he has replaced its slot with a Masterwork Quarterstaff); a hammer-backed handaxe cum prybar (balanced for throwing); a longknife (also balanced for throwing); a Manriki-Gusari; and four each of Acid, Alchemist's Fire, Holy Water, Tanglefoot Bags, and Thunderstones.

In the saddlebags, on his mount, is another change of clothes, along with the belt weapons, an old chain usable as a Manriki-Gusari, and an old set of Non-Masterwork claws (his old gear from first level). In the weapons boot on the mount is a Masterwork Lance, and a Masterwork Morningstar (from second level, I believe).

So, it is a sharpened tower shield that you swing around rather than bash with? How does it provide cover when you are swinging it? Does it have some kind of strength requirement to use? 1/2 inch thick steel weighs 20 pounds per square foot. you have 24 square feet of steel here, so at 1/4 inch thick you are talking about a 240 pound weapon. I suppose it could be a little thinner, but at some point it won't be rigid enough to be useable.

Please tell me you have some kind of typo in your description.

Maybe he bends over and his party straps it to his ass. He then spins around in a circle, slicing into opponents until he gets dizzy and falls over.

Correction: He then spins around in a circle, slicing into and/or offending opponents until he gets dizzy and falls over.

Hasn't anyone here seen Reroni Kenshin (butchered spelling)!? :)

I think you mean Inuyasha.

I like how the swords physical dimensions were edited.

We generally use longswords and greatswords...stuff from the core.

Ah edited. I was wondering what Phil was talking about. :)

Ok, LordBob's character has a big ol' anime blade. Cool. On the other end of the size scale, here's a pair of weapons one of the PCs in my game has:

Ligetsleht Banseaxen
These beautiful blades are a pair of short swords which seem to be made of bone or ivory rather than steel. The pommels are worked into draconic horse-heads with eyes of sapphire. The handles are wrapped in a bluish leather.
The Ligetsleht Banseaxan (Thunderbolt Bone Knives) were fashioned by the great Graesholming weaponsmith Connacht from the bone and hide of the blue dragon known as the Hryllingurwyrm (dragon of horror in the language of Fjellheim). He imbued the blades with some of the dragon’s power as well. Individually these blade act as +1 short swords. But when used together they become +2 and gain additional powers. One becomes a Thundering weapon and the other Shocking Burst.
<snip a bunch of history only relevant to my campaign...>

Lightning Blade – Moderate evocation; CL 10th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, call lightning or lightning bolt; Price 2,310 (Cost would be 1155 gp + 46 XP for creating this item alone)
Thunder Blade – Moderate necromancy; CL 10th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, blindness/deafness; Price 2,310 (Cost would be 1155 gp + 46 XP for creating this item alone)
Both Together – Moderate evocation and necromancy; CL 10th; Price 36,620; Cost 18,620 + 745XP

How sad, the original post was edited to remove the size of the sword. That was the best part of this thread.

Coming soon! A Dozen Big-Ass Swords! Soon you shall have the opportunity to assault your foes with weapons the size of men!

Resist Topple When Swinging Oversized Weapons [General]
You can swing the stupidly large weapons and still stay on your feet!
Prerequisite: A stupid DM or $20 for your DM.
Benefit: You can use a melee weapon of up to 2x your height without falling over.
Normal: Try and use a lame, oversized weapon and your DM laughs at you. The other players will probably take you out back and beat you with a garbage can.

No love for Exalted or Werewolf there Phil?

Seriously, check out some Berserk manga when Guts gets his Dragon Slayer sword, or check out the first disc of anime. He wields the weapon simply because he is an impressive man and probably one of the only humans who can wield it.

And as others have mentioned, many manga and anime series tend to go with oversized weapons. It's part of the 'fun'.
