Boo! Hiss! Not Dragotha!

As in, the dragon in there isn't Dragotha. It's a dracolich black dragon that has nothing to do with the classic Dragon 134 Dragotha (who, I might add, was done up very nicely in Dungeon recently). It doesn't even have the death wind!

It's not as if the guys who wrote that web enhancement are totally ignorant of Dragotha's history outside White Plume Mountain... are they?

Demiurge out.

Why should we have to be limited to one interpretation of the dragon Dragotha? Neither of the two options contradicts the original source (the original White Plume Mountain) in any way. Either is a legitimate use for the undead dragon marked on the map.

Options are good, instead of some unnecessary reference to an artificial "canon."

Maybe but the Dragotha in Age of Worms was WAY tougher than this cretinous filth that dares to call itself Dragotha. :p

I'm old enough to recall that Dragotha, and that great Erol Otus map, aren't even in the original White Plume Mountain. As far as I'm concerned, none of it is "canonical," so why not have fun reinterpreting a nonsense name that Erol tossed off 25 years ago for the hell of it?

Point taken.

It's just, as Nightfall said, that the "first" Dragotha (the Dragon 134/AoW one) is more interesting. He's unique. He has a history and unique abilities. This Dragotha's pretty bland. Well, as bland as a dracolich can be, really.

Demiurge out.

yeah I mean I can make my own great wyrm black draco-lich and call it Dragotha myself. Doesn't mean it's truly him.

Same is true for some other dragons that are just "great wyrms" or various types of dragons.
Unless they have unique spells, unique special abilities/qualities or even just special attacks, there's not a lot that seperates one dragon (or draco-lich) from another.

Unless they have class abilties.

To tell the truth, if I were using the White Plume Moutain map and was creating Dragotha the "undead dragon," I wouldn't make him a dracolich. At this point, it's just too cliche. I'd certainly go a different direction (mummy dragon? vampire dragon? ghost dragon?)
