Website for hosting out-of-game discussions

First Post
I am running a weekly pen-and-paper game and would like to have some of the information for the game online. In addition to an adventure log, some of the information characters can acquire in-between games and the important events ocurring in the one year interval beteween adventuers would be set up. Also, I would like it to have a forum feature so I can have interaction with my players over the site.

I considered doing this here at ENWorld at the Talking-the-Talk forum but noticed it was designated as the place for "Out-Of-Character discussion regarding games taking place in Playing the Game." Since my game doesn`t take place at Playing the Game I thought it would be inapropriate.

Anyone can point me to a good site for this? Or perhaps tell me there is no problem setting up my game in Talking the Talk even though there is no related thread in Playing the Game.

I seem to remember someone (Komodo?) announcing at Talking the Talk a game that would take place at some other site, it seemed like a more appropriate place for what I have in mind. Does anyone know that site?

I would appreciate any help and opinions.
If the game works out, I`m planning on having a Story Hour thread for it.

Yahoo is good and you can make it a private forum once all your players are signed up. One problem is that the discussions are not threaded.

I have an EN World private, hosted forum here. Threaded discussions at a place I already go to each day. :) It also encourages some of my players to look around EN World, which is a good thing in my book.

Thanks for the tips friends.

I was trying to avoid a yahoo group but I may have to curb my preconceptions and create an account.

The ezboards idea is cool (I wanted something more public like that) but it is paid.

Well, they are good ideas anyway. Still, I`d appreciate further input if anyone knows of other places. :)

@BardStephenFox

For now I`d rather have the forums more public. I have some prospective players and would like them to come by and see how the game is going. If they have to create an account or log in to read about the game it may prove to be an additional barrier.

Now the ENWorld hosted site can be a very good idea. As you said a place where I come every day. I was looking for a place for free but I can dig up some money to contribute to ENWorld ! :D

I`m still looking for ideas anyway.

infax--my group uses the "talking the talk" forum for our pencil-and-paper game, and the mods have been more than kind to us. I don't imagine you'd have any problem hosting your discussion there. It's been great for us.

Alternatively, I'd suggest having people use e-mail, and make sure to "reply all" when having a group discussion. Before we settled in the talking the talk forum, that's what we did.

If people are worried about overflowing inboxes, have them create seperate e-mail accounte for the game, and use those exclusively for that purpose...

I've used EZBoard, but there are some cheap hosting packages out there - I got domain name registration, hosting for a year, free PHPBB setup and all the possible perks of a full website for under $75 for a year. Maybe the group could all put in a few bucks and spring for it?

You can start a free yahoo group.

Thirding the suggestion.

In the past I always hated all things Yahoo and avoided it like the plague. But it is dandy for a gaming group. The features make all the difference. Daily updates and file sharing alone set Yahoo above the standard for-free forums.

If it's just talk ya want, sure, use someone else (I've always liked Network54), but Yahoo brings a lot of functionality to the mix.
