Well this is a surprise

Keen flaming Greatsword andAC boosters(Barbarian)
Two rapiers, one with a cold enchantment and one with fire(Rogue/Fighter)
A slew of items that enhance the Wizards spells per day and AC bossting items, and a health increaser.(Wizard)
The Cleric is not too bad, he does have some boots that up his speed to 30 and let him levitate three times a day.

For 8th and 9th level PC's that sounds about right. Assuming those items are the most powerful things they have, they're not that overpowered. The easiest thing to do would have been to compare their current wealth to what they should have at their given levels. If they have alot more than they should just slow down on handing out treasure till they get back to where they should be.

Heh, well like I said in my last post. One PC died and another one lost his stuff. But the other two still have theirs due to the fact that they slinked away when the mage was getting his stuff taken.

Well, the Mage lost his items and the Barbarian(who was the strongest) died when he got knocked to -1 and the Mage was not careful enough with the aiming of his fireball spell, se he got toasted. The Mage lost his because he got knocked to -4 and the enemy took his stuff. The Dwarf and Rogue/Fighter still have all their stuff. But the Dwarf is not too bad in terms of power. The Barbarians player is now a Human Fighter. Heh, the big battle where they lost a lot was when they got attacked by a bunch of bandits who shot colleys of arrows at them. They were also accosted by a phantasmal Ogre Mage who is really an old friend in disguise. :] He is the one who took the mages stuff.
Just curious - what was the EL of the encounter you threw at them?

I'll second this. Really it doesn't matter if they go a little above or below average - it is just the ebb and flow of fortune.

It was 17 CR 4 Humans with a magical manifestation of an Ogre Mage, but he could not do any physical harm, just take stuff. The main reason they got nearly killed was because while one group wore them down, another was lying in wait, hiding near them in some trees. When they finished off one group, the other attacked, and they were already low on health by then.

EDIT: On items, the Barbarian had some strength increasing items as well. So he could get to near 30 STR with some of his stuff and his rage. Well, this player seems to be happy now as he is playing a Fighter, which he enjoys.
