Greetings!
The current campaign in the world of Thandor has the group of PC's travelling to the northern frontiers of the Vallorean Empire. The group has travelled from the great fortress-city of Gaeden, to the town of Vhandus. Vhandus rises from a cluster of hills overlooking the confluence of the Sevanna River, flowing from the north-west, and the Madora River, from the north-east. Across the banks of the Sevanna River to the north and east, is the dark, mist-shrouded Galthan Forest. The group has arrived at the monastery at Vhandus, and delivered ecclesiastical books to the Abbot, Father Dharwin Bhindor. The group also succeeded in escorting a group of pious pilgrims travelling to the monastery at Vhandus for an upcoming spring festival and celebration. While visiting at the monastery, the group is introduced to the Holy Father, Ireneus Khalben. The Bishop in Gaeden, Jerome Marcellion, had briefed the group on several issues and concerns from Vhandus. The group also was introduced to Varwulf Argallius, commander of the knight-templars at the local temple of Ulleric.
The group decided to get rooms at the prominent White Horse Inn, a large, prosperous tavern famous in the region for food and drink, as well as vibrant theological debates and intriguing discussions of politics, rumours, and crazy theories. The group spent several days buying equipment, and getting a feel for the town. The group, led by Vandor Taeben, a Knight-Templar and Axel Ghandrich, a devout cleric and witch-hunter, embraced the charge given to them by Ireneus and Dharwin.
The group proceeded to investigate a matter of "Werewolves in the Mist". The group interviewed Helmar Vorden, a sergeant in the town militia, and a member of the Guild of Carpenters, Loggers and Woodcarvers. Also, the group interviewed Horsi Ghazarian, whom is a member of the town militia and also the Guild of Carpenters, Loggers and Woodcarvers. Sir Varwulf availed the group to Watch Commander Rhyden Arban, and various legal documents and court proceedings.
The group learned that Helmar and Horsi had been engaged in a long-standing romantic relationship, when problems developed between the two. Horsi had gone looking for Helmar in the nearby woods. Horsi discovered a scene of horror before her-there in the sun-dappled glade, fresh after a recent storm, was Helmar, laying in the arms of the beautiful Morgelyn Arthyenoc! Morgelyn transformed into a werewolf as she seduced Helmar. Horsi screamed, and fled the forest glade in terror. Horsi reported the terrifying event to Sartonius Galba, an itinerant witch-hunter staying at the White Horse Inn while consulting the pious monks at the monastery. Soon, the witch-hunter Sartonius went to the Arthyenoc manor, seeking the beautiful Morgelyn. Sartonius interviewed Morgelyn's parents, Arthyen Garwenoc and Claudia Lamond. In the process, Arthyen and Claudia transformed into werewolves and savagely attacked Sartonius and members of the Watch that had come with him. Morgelyn managed to escape, while her parents were subdued and arrested. Sartonius had the barrister Draven Marderus assist him during the ensuing trial. Morgelyn was condemned in absentia, and declared an outlaw, and enemy to the Crown. Arthyen and Claudia were condemned to burn at the stake for their wicked crimes against the gods and the empire!
At the end of a week, Arthyen and Claudia were dragged to the town square by the witch-hunter Sartonius Galba and burned at the stake at high noon, with the Magistrate Arvandus Balian, presiding over the public execution. The Lord Pontius Tarbus's Executioner, Master Khendric Gibbon, stoked the flames that swept Arthyen and Claudia to the afterlife.
In the following week, Barrister Draven Marderus, escorted by the Watch, executed the rest of the Lord's judgement against the heretics by confiscating all lands, properties and wealth possessed by Arthyen and Claudia, and turned such properties and goods to Magistrate Arvandus Balian. Such properties and goods were then apportioned out as appointed by the Law. The rest of Arthyen and Claudia's family were thereby made homeless, and all servants and retainers were discharged from their service to the family. Arthyen and Claudia were wealthy merchants, and they employed a considerable number of servants and retainers.
Three days afterwards, Barrister Draven was attacked at his home by a group of over a dozen werewolves, led by Morgelyn. Barrister Draven, his wife Elsa, and four of their children were slaughtered and eaten by the werewolves. Some 12 servants were also found butchered throughout the house and property. Some five days later, the witch-hunter Sartonius was taking a coach from the town of Dhornen, returning to Vharnus, when his coach was waylaid along the road leading into Vharnus by Morgelyn and her savage werewolves. Two people survived the coach attack, though one driver and three other passengers were found ripped apart. The witch-hunter Sartonius had been carried off into the night by Morgelyn and her howling werewolves.
Thus, the group now seeks to bring Morgelyn and her band of werewolves to justice, while hoping to find the witch-hunter Sartonius alive and rescue him from some grim fate-or to avenge him otherwise.
The group has surmised that the werewolf maiden Morgelyn, is accompanied by her other siblings, as well as a dozen retainers, perhaps considerably more. The group believes she is joined by the following:
Goren Arthyenoc (eldest brother) Barbarian 6
Malgen Arthyenoc (elder brother) Barbarian 5
Jessica Bardon (Malgen's wife) Ranger 6
Cadan Arthyenoc (elder brother) Barbarian 5
Rochelle Vingnea (Cadan's wife) Witch 6
Elowen Arthyenoc (elder sister) Bard 5
Lachlan Bardon (Elowen's husband; brother to Jessica Bardon) Barbarian 6
Morgelyn (youngest daughter) Barbarian 4
The group has conducted further inquiries, and has learned more about the Arthyenoc family; the Arthyenoc family immigrated here from their tribal homeland, far to the north-west, in the Alban Isles. Arthyenoc was a barbarian warrior, and the son of Garwen, also a barbarian warrior of their tribe. Arthyen Garwenoc married Claudia Lamond, a barbarian woman of the Bruthach tribe, a tribe from the northern highlands.
Lachlan and Jessica Bardon are both barbarians from the highland Bruthach tribe.
Lachlan is a ferocious barbarian warrior, highly skilled with a great sword. Jessica Bardon is deadly with a longbow. Lachlan is 7'0" tall, and massively powerful. Lachlan has long black hair, and pale grey eyes. Jessica is also huge, at 6'6" and strongly built. Jessica has long black hair, and blue-green eyes.
Rochelle Vingnea (Vinn-yay) is a Narthan woman, from a primitive farming tribe.
It is believed by some, that Rochelle is a witch. Rochelle is 5'8", voluptuous and beautiful. Rochelle has long, curly black hair, and pale blue eyes.
Goren is a formidable barbarian warrior, highly skilled with a great axe. Goren is 6'6", 275 lbs with shoulder length dark blonde hair, and dark grey eyes.
Malgen is a formidable barbarian warrior, highly skilled with a longbow. Malgen is 6'4" and 240 lbs with short, dark blonde hair and pale blue eyes.
Cadan is a formidable barbarian warrior, highly skilled with a spear. Cadan is 6'3" and 245 lbs with shoulder length dark blonde hair, and dark grey eyes.
Elowen is a beautiful singer, and skilled with a longsword. Elowen is 5'10" and 165 lbs with long, dark auburn hair, and pale blue eyes.
Morgelyn and her family have escaped into the forest and have maybe 24 retainers with them, some of which are werewolves as well, while others are not werewolves, but are deeply loyal to the family.
So. I'm relaxing here, enjoying some good coffee and a fine cigar, pondering on the possibilities.
Who might these followers and retainers be? While many of them will no doubt end up as fodder for the ravens, some may have a longer lifespan, and prove to be intriguing and challenging, as well as helping the werewolf family.
Where in the forest might the werewolves lair be? Forests, streams and grottoes abound, and some hills, too. The family has escaped with some considerable wealth, perhaps some 25,000 gold in total value of gold, jewels, supplies and gear. In time, additional wealth could be gained from stocks of resources and investments in several other towns, beyond Vhandus.
Now that the werewolf family are outlaws, what plans may they form for their future?
As for the group, they are now seeking Morgelyn and her band of werewolves. They are entering a dangerous and savage wilderness on the frontiers of the Vallorean Empire. The group's challenges are just beginning! Lol. Thank you for any suggestions and such you may provide me in further developing "Werewolves in the Mist".
