WFRP 3 - Our last set up used miniatures and a different party card

It looks like you have the material to replace the character stand-ups with miniatures so I'm curious why you still use them? They look like they have some sort of round base, is that custom?

I think that's the old stance rings that used to come with them. These pix are old, and just showcase a game where we played the scenario "False Pretenses." Now, my cardboard standups sit in a box (with all the basic action cards, location cards, item cards, party sheets, nemesis cards, and extra "loose" stuff from scenarios.)

You guys should have plenty of meet-ups in Cali. My regular Pathfinder/Arcanis group didn't want to play WFRP (any edition), so I just started a 2nd group.

I found all of my players through Meet-Up, Paizo.com (player finder boards), here and RPG.net player finder boards. It took about 4-5 months of wash-out to weed out the people who come and go from every group and now I'm down to my consistent 4.

I still keep a regular Players Wanted advertisement up, just in case we have a drop-out.

Best of luck,

jh

RPG group plays WFRP 3rd ed. Rules taught. Current Episode: Curse of the Crimson Pirate ~ Seventy years ago a dreaded pirate known as
Valamir the Crimson sailed up river with his
murderous crew and found himself deep in the
heart of the Empire. He came across Halpstadt
and terrorised us! When the witch hunters caught
and burned him he cursed our village, claiming he
would return to claim our souls for his evil god.
Now his ghost has been seen stalking the fields. Two of our folk have disappeared already and now we all live in fear.

Other details:
Game Frequency: We play a couple Thursday evenings per month.

Newbies to Warhammer Roleplay 3e: Here is a summary download of the rules [LINK]. Yes, this is the new roleplaying game, not the miniatures battles game. No need to bring anything otherwise. I have all the books and dice if necessary.

Character creation: If you're new to WFRP3e, you may use a pregen from the back of LF7 [LINK]. No ironbreaker, swordmaster, initiate, apprentice wizard, or trollslayer until you've played a session. If you've got the Player's guide or core set, you may create a character [House Rules Link.] Max start characteristic of 4. I need to approve any character creation before the game starts so let me know.

Current Players: Ed, Brett, Dave, and Scott are our regulars and always have a place at the table. We seek 1 more player to round out the group. EMAIL JAY H and we'll talk about fitting you into the group.

We've got great ongoing stories, fellowship and campaigning. Join us!

No problem. There are also several new downloads on rpggeek.com for this stuff..namely the "Current" random career chart and some other things.

Regarding talent socketing: There are two types. The kind that you "exhaust" such as "exhaust this card to gain a white die to something-check" and the kind that are "always on."

And if you're worried about balance just make a talent cap of 1/tier + 1.

Regarding DEFENSES:
Pick one. It's always on.

This works and is much easier unless you have a weird and wonderful defence. But then you have a weird and wonderful defence...

It's not that you can't use these things. They're fine. We just found them to add to the unnecessary burden of "too much accounting" inherent in this game system if you "let it" run "you" like a boardgame. It's a great roleplaying system, but you can tell that fantasy flight wanted to integrate components into everything..and we just found it was more fun without some of that stuff.

This. There are two games in there. A very nice rules light game that uses funky dice and uses them well. And a nice 4e-esque game that suffers from bloat. WFRP 3E is in dire need of a hedge trimmer.
