Whamageddon (Last) Christmas

I survived. Close at the end; had to run out to a bakery and they were playing Christmas music. Luckily it was "I'm Getting Nuttin' For Christmas" and I beat a hasty retreat before the song changed.

A Happy Non-Specific Winter Solstice Festival to you all!

Well, got in the car and drove to our service…unWhammed!

Turned on the car, got Motley Crüe’s “Doctor Feelgood”, followed by commercials. Got all green lights, cutting travel time in half. The station was still in commercial break when I turned off the car after parking.😁

😁
Soooo, from here on ill never see Dr Feelgood as anything but a story about one of Santa's elves breaking bad.

Rat-tailed Jimmy is a secondhand hood
Deals out in Hollywood
Got a '65 Chevy, primered flames
Traded for some powdered goods
Jigsaw Jimmy, he's runnin' a gang
But I hear he's doin' okay
Got a cozy little job, sells the Mexican mob
Packages of candy cane

I got "Do They Know It's Christmas" confused with "War is Over". But yeah, I hope I never hear that song again.

I always find it funny that John Lennon was known for peace and love, when he was anything but. I just watched a documentary on his "Lost Weekend" where he admitted so.
I appreciate when someone tries to change themselves. Over the course of his life, cut tragically short, it seems like Lennon did so.

I think Happy Christmas (War is Over) has lovely verses, and the lyrics aren’t super deep but well intentioned. At least, unlike the sentimental sap of so many popular Christmas songs, it acknowledges that we have a responsibility to do better. And so did Lennon, about himself.

I'm so disappointed. Never heard one peep of it despite waking up every morning to a radio station that typically plays all the classics. Finally put it on myself this afternoon along with a few other favourites.

Pretty sure it was John Lennon who said in the mid to late 70's that the whole peace and love mentality was somewhat naive and in the grand scheme wasn't going to change the world and saw the world in a more realistic sense. But he did he was making a conscious effort to be a better husband and father. So who knows what he would've done had he lived.

I got double-tapped last night whilst scrolling through Facebook. Some random ad/nonsense started playing Last Christmas as I flicked by. Relieves some of the guilt that my daughter no doubt feels (lol) at taking me out earlier this week.

Congratulations to all the survivors!

Nope! Songs & service.

Well…there’s probably a nativity display somewhere on the grounds. They’ve had live ones the past, but I don’t think that’s happening this year.

Not really. I’m gifted with a4.5 octave range and good sustain, and I know how to use it. On top of that, Mom was a music teacher (specialized in voice). I’m good enough that I sometimes surprise people with what I can do- including my Mom.

But I don’t really use it like most would expect because:
1) my allergies make my voice somewhat undependable, and
2) I’m seriously introverted.

So most people never hear me sing unless they’re next to me in church or riding in a car with me. (My college roomies & suitemates probably heard me in the shower, too.)

Beyond that, I’ve also got 20 years as a cellist and 20+ as a guitarist…all hampered by my introversion.
Wow! There could be a Freddie Mercury or Jeff Buckley trapped in there. You were never tempted to sign up for an open mic or similar (introversion notwithstanding)? Rip a phone number off an A1 on a utility pole from a band looking to replace their lead singer?

An hour and half into Xmas Day…and I an Unwhamified!

I was in the car for maybe an hour, running some last minute errands (I.e. buying my wife a gift) and it did not come up. Came home and decided to put on my Xmas Day playlist, after scanning it, and somewhat surprisingly seeing that Last Christmas was not on it.

At some point I downstairs to play a bit of Solasta (video game). When I came back up, my daughter said I was lucky I missed Wham on my playlist. I replied it’s not on there, and she corrected me that it was! If I had waited two more songs I would have been out.

Really need to get new glasses.

A very Merry Xmas to all.
Nah, you would've been fine. You only have to last till the end of Christmas Eve. If you hear it on Christmas Day, you're all good!
