MULTIPLE VOTES ARE ALLOWED!

Remember when 3E was announced, and even though you switched over, you thought you would still get a fair amount of use from your 2E material?

Sooo - have you?

I am soliciting your opinions to help me make some tough decisions. I'm considering selling/trading a fair amount of my 2E collection.

Since 3E has come out, I have used some FR stuff, and I still really enjoy reading through my Planescape books occassionally. I still have FOUR PS Player's Handbooks still in the shrinkwrap! For a while there, I was convinced that BUYING my players books was the only way I could convice them to run a PS campaign - Even that didn't work!!

Discusssion is welcome- Especially if you still use some 2E stuff, please post and tell us what you use and how you use it.

THANKS! -BFG

I'll bite.

I voted for setting material only (FR, Spelljammer and Dragonlance, in my case) because that's what I still get the most use out of. If I had to discard my other 2e stuff, I'd still keep the setting material.

In actuality, however, I also still have the core books, one or two of the class books and a module or two. Most of my 2e stuff was destroyed (long story), and I did sell some of it for various reasons. I miss some of it, and some I wish I still had for nostalgia's sake -- but all I really use is the setting stuff.

I sold my 2e stuff years ago

Anyway I never had much D&D stuff during 2e days, PH, DM's Guide, Thief and Fighter book and those cheesy Monsterous Compedium (you know the ones that were sheets of paper that would fall apart if you used them)

i said the al-quadim stuff, cos it's not out again for 3e, and other, because demihuman deities was a really good 2e book that detailed HEAPS about religions, and the 3e stuff hasn't been a s good fluff wise as that book. not that i have either of these... anyone looking to sell?

Gotta keep the PS books, its all flavor and the MoP can be used as a conversion book. I'm also keeping my first print PsiHB because i plan to use it almost as is for my D20 Modern/Future game.

Here's the must-keepers IMHO

- campaign material. Most of it is still perfectly useable
- Complete Villain's Handbook. Recommend this one for any RPG.
- Castle Guide. Good information on medieval culture and architecture, as well as a useable system with some tweaks. Best bet would be to use Stronghold Builder's Guidebook for crunch and this book for fluff.
- Aurora's WHole Realms' catalouge. Assuming you have one that hasn't disintegrated, the everyday items in this book are great, especially if you have PCs that love having little tools and gadgets.
- Magic item/spell collections. While many of them are in dire need of balancing, conversions aren't all that hard. Eyeball/calculate a value for the items, figure out the appropriate save, and you're good to go.

Some of the complete handbooks are serviceable for generic fluff. I can't think of a use for the core books to be honest.

Well, I still play 2e.

But the High level Campaigns book, and the Villain book are both really good. If you don't use diety stats and won't miss some PrCs, then Faiths and Avatars is probably at least as good as Faiths and Pantheons.
