What are D&D's Iconic Locales?

The Greyhawk poll got me thinking...

What are some of the classic locales of D&D? What towns, nations, lands, or other places in various D&D settings instantly spring to mind just at the mention of "D&D," or at the least, at the mention of a campaign setting like Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, or Eberron?

Depends on whether you're a casual or hardcore hobbyist. Most casual players are familiar with the computer games the most, and those are skewed towards the Forgotten Realms. Most hardcore types seem to be Greyhawk fans with a love for the old modules.

I'd hafta agree, to a certain extent. I think that the D&D CRPGs have helped define certain cities/areas as "iconic" for some players. If it weren't for the CRPGs, I'm not sure that places like Phlan, Baldur's Gate, and Neverwinter may be in this category.

Some of the iconic D&D locales, IMHO, are:

Greyhawk City
Keep on the Borderlands/Caves of Chaos
Karameikos (for players like myself introduced via the basic Red Box)
Waterdeep (& the Sword Coast, to an extent)
Icewind Dale (thanks to the books, then the CRPGs)
Castle Greyhawk
Tomb of Horrors
Ravenloft
Tyr (for Dark Sun)
Sigil (for Planescape)
Sharn (for Eberron)
Baldur's Gate (thanks to the CRPGs)
Phlan (thanks to to "Gold Box" CRPGs)
Neverwinter (thanks to online play & the CRPG)
Solace/Inn of the Last Home
City of Brass
Vault of the Drow
Blackmoor
Village of Hommlet/Temple of Elemental Evil

Threshold (!!!...can't believe this one's been missed)
Athkatla
Ravens Bluff
City State of the Invincible Overlord
The Abyss (a lot of 1E campaigns seemed to holiday here)

(and perhaps revealingly, I note not a single sign of the Adventure Path in this thread)
